🚨NEW: The House released former AG Bill Barr's deposition on Epstein today. I read through it as quickly as I could. Here are the highlights, in order of significance imo -- starting with Barr admitting that Epstein's 2008 plea deal was unlike anything he's ever seen before!
🧵
When asked whether he discussed the Epstein/Maxwell case, Barr said it was largely handled by the SDNY. However, one time he discussed it was when she disappeared! I remember public reports about her disappearing, but this is the 1st time I've seen that gov't couldn't find her.
Barr explains why he didn't think Epstein killed himself -- totally ignoring the question about private examiner Dr. Baden's findings that the broken neck bones indicated foul play
The only 2 legislators asking questions were James Comer and ... Jasmine Crockett. The staffers were asking questions too
This was the only time Barr was asked about his father hiring Epstein as a teacher in the 70s. Barr said "it's not pertinent at all."
When asked about Epstein's intelligence ties, Barr predictably denied him. He did say "maybe" Epstein talked to intelligence like many other businessmen who travel internationally have been known to do.
Again, Barr largely pled ignorance. He told the House they would need to talk to former SDNY attorney Geoff Berman. The House has not subpoenaed that guy. Sad!
🚨NEW: The FBI has released records on Thomas Crooks. Heavily redacted, they do show that he was hospitalized just 2 months before the July 2024 Trump assassination attempt in Butler, PA.
There are a few other revelations in these records, too.
🧵
Perhaps even more interestingly, someone told the FBI that they were nearly hit by a car speeding away about 5 minutes after shots were fired.
For reasons that are unclear, FBI agents were interested in tracking down someone whose name appeared on a business card left at the scene.
Unclear if this person was even there. The FBI didn't interview this person as of the drafting of this report.
This man pictured with Vance is being sued for posing as a CIA agent in a scheme to defraud a Dutch oil trader out of millions of dollars.
Here he is with ex-CIA officer John Maguire, who's also being sued for vouching for his credentials.
This is a wild one.
🧵
The lawsuit is from Dutch trader Niels Troost, who did business with Russia and was worried about US gov't scrutiny due to oil sanctions imposed after the Ukraine invasion. A business associate put Troost in connection with the phony CIA agent, Indian national Gaurav Srivastava
Srivastava told Troost that he "ran a CIA ‘Program’ involving monitoring Russian oil flows for U.S. national security" and promised Troost could continue trading Russian-origin oil if they did business with each other.
While I'm less sympathetic to entrapment claims when the target is enlisted in the military, this case is pretty egregious.
On Dec. 13, the 2 undercover agents convinced Said to record an ISIS propaganda video. Said actually suspected them of being feds, so he put AirTags in their car. The undercover agents then confronted him about it and asked if he was getting "cold feet."
They then bought Said a ticket to Turkey, but he never showed up!
Two months later, they finally convinced him to attack the military base. It looks like one of the undercover FBI agents was a female who seduced this guy. He told "him/her" that he loved "him/her" right before he went to carry out the plan.
🧵
Look at how Said and UCE-2 talk to each other. UCE-2 surely was a female, right?
Palm Beach County Sheriffs arrested someone who was in touch with Rupnow for years. Seems likely that this was the "boyfriend" who provided a journalist with Rupnow's manifesto.
The two were so close that police think they had a "conspiracy" to commit mass shootings.
This is a wild one
🧵
Allen purportedly came onto the FBI's radar after Rupnow's shooting, when agents found her phone. Agents found videos of Allen posing as a police officer. Allen was apparently so convincing that the FBI thought he really WAS a cop!
Allen had all the authentic gear, including an apparent police laptop. Law enforcement still doesn't know how he got their authentic uniform.
According to local reports, Allen also had "an FBI uniform, an Army Ranger outfit, Marine Corps dress blues, a ballistic vest, helmets, and fake federal and military ID badges."
Police found a veritable arsenal at Allen's home.
"Inside Allen’s home, deputies say they found 18 firearms, including what appeared to be automatic weapons, more than 300 pounds of ammunition, and full PBSO deputy uniforms. Also recovered: a taser, a two-way radio, and a fake body camera made with a 3D printer."
I nearly forgot! It's time for my Top 10 stories of the year --- and what a year!
I've been working almost solely on the Trump shooting in the second half of 2024, but nothing tops my interview with former FBI informant David Gletty, who talked about infiltrating right-wing groups for the FBI
2. Gletty was also part of a larger FBI op in the mid-2000s, which I've dubbed Robert Mueller's right-wing terror factory. headlineusa.com/exclusive-the-…
BREAKING: The DOJ-IG has found that the FBI systematically mishandled TROVES of classified information.
Pictured below is an FBI storage facility. The camera above the door doesn't work, and the doors were kept open at all hours -- allowing non-authorized personnel access to potentially Secret info.
