@slate11 @PirateWires I guess that you didn't read the article.

"Assimilate" can mean a lot of things. The Cajuns are distinctive, with their own language, sure, but they also know English and I've never heard anybody doubt their loyalty to America.archive.is/tmxiQ
@slate11 @PirateWires The kind of assimilation that Sagnik Basu is talking about is that of becoming an American in a meaningful sense, somebody whose relationship with America is that one has with one's home and not just that a shopper would have with a shopping mall she was in.
@slate11 @PirateWires Think about some of the recent discussions on Twitter between Indian-Americans and Indians in which the Indians are calling the Indian-Americans "worthless traitors," because we won't advance India's interests at the expense of America, and we're telling them to get a grip.
@slate11 @PirateWires At some point along the way, as we sat in these discussions between the (usually White) Americans and these sub-continental people who look like us, for us "we" came to mean the Americans and not the Indians.
@slate11 @PirateWires Other things tend to happen, too, like my and my French-American mate's growing obsession with Film Noir, Jazz, Westerns, American Victorian architecture, and so many other things, but these are individual preferences, not requirements for Americanness.
@slate11 @PirateWires I don't see how anybody could not love barbecue and Civil War re-enactments, but as far as that goes, it's all good.
@slate11 @PirateWires But if I had entered that discussion with the Indian guys demanding that America be made into expansion space for India's unsustainably growing population and saw them as anything other than outsiders with ridiculous demands, that would not have been cool.

See the difference?

@DanielBiss Dr. Biss,

The anarchy thing is sort of played out. If you want to talk about the wisdom of the government's policies (or lack thereof), there's plenty to talk about and that's fine. But if you're going to try to put a forcible end to the Government's actions, do you really ...
@DanielBiss ... believe that your deeper understanding of homeomorphisms will really win the battle for you?

Meaning no disrespect, but this looks like something that will end badly for you, without achieving anything. It won't even make you a martyr in the eyes of the people.
@DanielBiss The patience of the general public with lawless behavior is being pushed to the breaking point.

You need to read the room, before the room explodes on you and you get yourself and people you care about hurt.

@SomeBitchIIKnow Proof, once again (as if it were needed) that

DuPage County > The North Shore
@SomeBitchIIKnow A Left wing mathematician? I guess those had to exist, somewhere.
@SomeBitchIIKnow I knew it! He is (or rather, was) a topologist. 😆

No disrespect for Topology or topologists should be read into my amusement, just an observation that they tend to do far less applied work than do mathematicians in a number of other fields.

@slate11 @PirateWires "Third, cajuns are a noble, fun people but they kept a fondness for the French."

Which is a bad thing, because reasons? Oh, how could I forget? This is X'itter, where Hate for it's own sake is always in fashion.
@slate11 @PirateWires Grok speaks:

"The post reflects a nuanced view on assimilation, suggesting Cajun retention of French culture over nearly two centuries aligns with a natural immigrant tendency to preserve heritage, ...
@slate11 @PirateWires ... supported by a 2019 study from the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies showing second- and third-generation immigrants often retain cultural practices while integrating economically.

@slate11 @PirateWires That was so stupid a remark as to almost defy response. Blocking you, now.
@slate11 @PirateWires "If you don't like Football, you ain't 'Merican." Who the Hell thinks like that? Is there a maximum IQ above which one doesn't get to be a real American?

How about the Kardashians? Am I allowed to dislike them and still be an American, anyway?

@Be13Stan @CindyLM1969 @Rightanglenews "Who you killing first?"

Are you unclear on the meaning of the word "self-defense"?

Blocking you, now, because that was a sociopathically bad faith reply.
@Be13Stan @CindyLM1969 @Rightanglenews In context, your intent is clear. You want to create the illusion that I was inciting violence, instead of talking about being prepared to defend ourselves against violence.

In response to my refusal to be a passive, easy victim, you're trying to set me up for a fall.
@Be13Stan @CindyLM1969 @Rightanglenews I'm not going to take the bait, and I am going to ask real questions about a system in which you can try to trick somebody else into breaking the law, or others into thinking that I have, without having to face any real legal consequences for what you are going.

@johnconner05 @HanifJazayeri @womenncri @TracyEdwardsMBE @sharrond62 @jk_rowling @UN_WGDAWG @Martina @AllisonPearson @DorothyEstrada @Irenekhan @AgnesCallamard Why would you think that bombing the country would be the answer? Bombing kills the people the war would supposedly be fought to save, in great numbers.

Why not respond more surgically, with a wave of assassinations directed against the people in charge, the ones who are ...
@johnconner05 @HanifJazayeri @womenncri @TracyEdwardsMBE @sharrond62 @jk_rowling @UN_WGDAWG @Martina @AllisonPearson @DorothyEstrada @Irenekhan @AgnesCallamard ... actually guilty of something other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time?

As for the Trans flag crowd - since when are they friends of women? The last thing I need to see in a locker room as I change is some "transwoman's" penis.

This DOES NOT make me feel safe.
@johnconner05 @HanifJazayeri @womenncri @TracyEdwardsMBE @sharrond62 @jk_rowling @UN_WGDAWG @Martina @AllisonPearson @DorothyEstrada @Irenekhan @AgnesCallamard Grok actually dared to say this, in its explanation of the above tweet ...
