🧵 Thread: The Seven Horses of Surya Dev – Mysteries of Sanatan Dharma
1️⃣ Why does Surya Dev’s chariot have 7 divine horses? Because they represent the 7 meters of Sanskrit prosody, the foundation of all Vedic poetry & mantras.
Gayatri
Brihati
Ushnih
Jagati
Trishtubha
Anushtubha
Pankti
Sanatan Dharma hides cosmic truth in every detail.
2️⃣ Surya Dev (सूर्यदेव) is the son of Kashyap Rishi (कश्यप ऋषि) & Aditi (अदिति). He is not just a planet or a star, but the eternal source of light, energy & consciousness. Without him, life ceases, time halts, Dharma itself would not exist. The Sun is the witness of all karma.
3️⃣ The powerful Surya mantra is recited for light, health & inner purity:
"ॐ जपाकुसुमसंकाशं काश्यपेयम् महाद्युतिम्।
तमोऽरिं सर्वपापघ्नं प्रणतोऽस्मि दिवाकरम्॥"
It describes Surya as bright like the hibiscus, destroyer of darkness & sins, and the great illuminator of life.
4️⃣ Surya Dev had 4 wives, each representing cosmic powers: 1. Sandhya (संध्या) – twilight 2. Suvarna/Chhaya (सुवर्णा/छाया) – shadow & patience 3. Usha (उषा) – dawn 4. Pratyusha (प्रत्युषा) – early morning light
From them were born mighty beings who shaped Dharma.
5️⃣ Children of Surya Dev include:
Shraddhadev / Vaivasvat Manu (law-giver of humanity)
Yamraj (god of death & justice)
Yamuna (river goddess, daughter of Sandhya)
Shanidev (son of Suvarna, dispenser of karma)
Tapti (goddess of Tapti river)
Savarnimanu (future Manu of next cycle).
6️⃣ Other divine births of Surya Dev include:
The Ashwini Kumaras, twin healers of the Devas
Sugriv, king of Vanaras, born through Aruni’s devotion
Karna - great Mahabharata warrior, born to Kunti by Surya’s blessing
Every child of Surya had a dharmic mission that shaped Itihasa.
7️⃣ Surya Dev is not just worshipped as the Sun but revered as:
The giver of Prana (life-force)
Destroyer of inner & outer darkness
Witness of Dharma, as nothing is hidden from him
The cosmic time-keeper, moving Kalachakra (wheel of time)
Surya Narayan is Dharma’s eternal eye.
8️⃣ When you see the rising Sun, you are not just seeing a star. You are bowing to the cosmic charioteer with 7 Vedic horses, father of Yamraj, Shani, Yamuna, Tapti, Karna & more. He is the witness of your karma, the giver of light, the destroyer of ignorance. Jai Surya Narayan!
9️⃣ The 7 horses of Surya = 7 meters of Sanskrit poetry. What science explains as photons & energy, Sanatan Dharma preserved through mantra & symbolism. Every god, every story hides cosmic wisdom. That’s why Sanatan Dharma is eternal - uniting science, spirituality & poetry.
If you felt proud reading this, share this knowledge. Our Dharma is full of hidden wisdom waiting to be rediscovered.
🚩 जय श्री सूर्य नारायण 🚩
