One year ago, I ran the Boston Marathon after being threatened, harassed, and ultimately kicked out of a club I had worked so hard to build. All for saying this storied race - the most competitive amateur sporting event in the world - should keep the female category for females.
I registered for boston when I was 8 months pregnant and in so much pain I could barely run 2 miles let alone 26. But I believe in the strength, tenacity, and power of women (and moms!).
And I wanted this race to reflect that. And so I spoke out with @xx_xyathletics
@xx_xyathletics now - one year later - we have a run club of over 100 women from around the country who believe in that strength too. We celebrate and support each other because we know that there's something special about being a woman and an athlete that you can't just don like a costume.
It was tough out there. I tripped in a pothole and fell at mile 8, and mentally struggled. But I thought of all of you and all of the ladies that didn’t get to be where I was today. I am so proud to have run this race with all of you cheering me on. 2:50:04.
I am so happy to have had the chance to run this race with @xx_xyathletics and all of you behind me. Women are incredible. We are tough, we appreciate the emotions of the experience, and we compete. Thank you thank you thank you.
