2. Atrophic—Caused by deficiencies in nutrients, hormones, and other factors that provide supportive signals to brain cells. (vitamin D, thyroid hormone, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, etc.) These deficiencies may be caused by a lack of fluid circulation that ultimately prevents the nutrients from reaching where they need to go.
