If you're concerned about Alzheimer's dementia, and taking cholesterol medication, I'm going to highly encourage you to read the below 😳

THREAD Image
Things that make you go hmmm 🤔

FYI: statins = cholesterol meds

Remove statins = brain function improves with Alzheimer's dementia

Add statins back = brain function decreases with those same Alzheimer's patients Image
"Maybe" it's because we are barking up the wrong tree with both heart disease and dementia (we are).

Cholesterol is not what causes heart disease.

Arbitrarily lowering this "boogey man" creates a whole host of other issues.
I'm not going to re-hash it here because I've already written about it.

If you want to read more about it, click on the below thread
As far as dementia and Alzheimer's goes, we are also trying to address the wrong issues with our traditional medical approaches.

It's not going to work.

It didn't work with my grandmother. And it's why dementia & Alzheimer's rates continue to rise.
Again, I'm not going to re-hash dementia/Alzheimer's solutions here.

I've written about this exact subject in depth.

You can read about it here
If you want to take care of heart disease or dementia/Alzheimer's, you will need to improve your metabolic function.

This is not going to come in the form of a pill.

It will require you to make lifestyle changes.
One of the biggest areas of your life for metabolic improvement, is how you fuel your body, brain & heart.

It's why I write about food & fluids so much.

You have to start there as a foundation & build upon it.
I know both my patients & followers here are often confused when it comes to diet and their health.

They hear so much conflicting information.

It's understandable why they are confused.
Many, frankly, teach theory and regurgitate what they've been taught in school.

They have no practical application in the real world, with actual positive results.

I had to un-learn a lot of what I was taught. It didn't work for me or my patients.
I had to get myself healthy. I then started applying it with patients.

The results I now see in the clinic are "miraculous" when we start fueling or bodies with a genetically-congruent diet.
If you have a family history of heart disease, dementia, Alzheimer's....or maybe you already have signs and symptoms of metabolic dysfunction

•High Triglycerides
•High A1c
•Low HDL
•Low Energy
•Brain Fog
•Carrying Extra Weight
If you fall into any of these categories, I'm going to highly encourage you to begin making lifestyle changes.

Not only will you feel better about yourself, but your quality of life will greatly improve.

I can promise you that!

And, you will live longer.. another bonus 😉
Start with dietary changes (this will have the largest impact) and then go from there to make other changes.

It's well worth it!

This account exists for those who are frustrated with their weight & health.

They know our healthcare system is broken & focuses on masking symptoms.

They want a different approach. Not just another pill or shot.

They want to get to the root cause.

This account is a birth... Image
...of my frustration with people not knowing what I now know.

What I was taught as a doctor frankly didn't work many times.

When I had my own health issues that didn't respond to traditional care, I went on a search.

I had to unlearn a lot of what I had been taught

I ended...
... up getting myself better. I then started applying what I learned, with my own patients.

And guess what?

They too had some pretty miraculous turnarounds!

I kept applying it to more and more people.

The weight would come off like clockwork & people would get healthy.

My low iron anemia patients often suffer with:

•Extreme Fatigue
•Brittle Nails
•Brain Fog
•Thinning Hair
•Constipation
•Cold Hands & Feet
•Soreness on Tongue
•Inflammation
•Headaches

There’s an often-overlooked root cause.

Let’s discuss.

THREAD Image
Today I’m going to cover 4 parts:

1) What often happens to patients with the above symptoms

2) Common issues with the standard approach

3) A needed test that is practically never ran

4) What to do to address the root cause

I’m going in depth today, so let’s dive in…
Often patients will go to their doctor with some (or all) of the above symptoms and know something is not right in their body.

Their doc will then run standard blood work and get results back.

Very often the results will come back that these individuals have low iron levels.

Which is no surprise. They are then diagnosed as anemic.

William's story is a touching one.

He wanted to lose weight for someone else, not himself.

When he came to me, he told me that he had a grandson who had a disability.

He loved his grandson dearly.

He told me he wanted to lose weight so he... Image
....could not only help care for his grandson but be around on this earth longer to spend more time with his beloved grandson.

After hearing this, I was just as motivated as William to help him reach his goals!
I put a plan together for him, and in just a few months' time, a significant amount of weight came off easily.

Not only did his weight improve, but so did his energy and blood work.

I regularly have conversations with patients who are exercising to lose weight.

Often when they first come to see me, they have been exercising quite extensively to lose weight.

However, the scale hasn’t moved.

The reason is the same for 99.9% of them.

The classic “eat less calories, burn more calories” paradigm of weight loss is frankly wrong.

Or maybe I should say, only a slight truth.

Caloric deficit is not the primary driver of weight loss.

Practically every patient has attempted this approach in one form or another, before coming to me.
What primarily drives weight loss is hormones.

For years I thought it was all about calories.

But I was wrong. Hormones are much larger drivers & I frankly ignored them.

Have you ever wondered why Type 2 Diabetes is the #1 cause of the following in America?

•Blindness
•Amputations
•Kidney Failure

Most never think they will end up here, but they do & it's simple to explain why.

THREAD Image
All 3 of these conditions are ultimately due to microvascular complications.

Meaning the small blood vessels in these tissues get damaged & can't supply the tissues blood.

How does this happen?

Glad you asked 😉
A blood sugar of 180 or higher is a poisonous level that is not compatible with normal cellular function.

However, our bodies are pretty good a mitigating damage.

So, in order to avoid damage from the sugar toxicity, the body converts excess blood sugar to sorbitol.

My son is at a university that is academically rigorous.

He knows that to get the most out of his mind, he needs to fuel it with good food.

When he opened up the cabinet of his roommate's food selection, he texted me the below Image
These are all breakfast "foods".

It's important how you break your fast... this sets you up hormonally for your energy levels and brain function.
His choices are:

•Rice Krispies
•Oat Crunch
•Cheerios
•Pop Tarts

No matter what he chooses, he's starting his body out on a hormonal rollercoaster.
