This chart is so insane it looks fake. Huge businesses (plural) will be built on top of this chart. Image
psst... I have a secret. @bbalfour wrote about it (Great Distribution Shift) and we talked about it months ago on the Unsolicited Feedback pod.

I think this analysis from @IshBaid on the challenges facing cohort-based courses is dead on, but none of them are new.

At @reforge we have built systems to handle each and every one of these problems to build sustained income for operators with strong insights...

My own 🧵
Programs are really hard to build.

Our Insights team is purpose built to translate the experiences of world-class operators into high-quality, evergreen programs. We've done this 20+ times and will do it 100s of times over the coming years.

We staff our programs with execs-in-residence who LOVE to facilitate and work directly with our members.

You can be confident that the person delivering the program represents your program well and has direct A+ experience in the subject area.

Layoffs are the worst part of startup life but they are inevitable.

We have a responsibility as a community to support the people who take these risks when they don’t work out.

Some thoughts on managing a lay-off well:
CEOs: Use your networks to support your team. It sucks to tell people your company isn’t working out but you are the best-connected person at the company.

Leverage your network to help your team land on their feet.
Been laid off?

Once news gets out, you are going to get inundated with recruiters.

Spin up an alumni Slack and a google sheet. Ask everyone to share EVERY SINGLE JOB they hear about in slack and then document it in the sheet.

1/ Experimentation is a critical tool to move your business and your understanding of customers forward. Unfortunately, most experiments are bad.

What’s the difference between a good experiment and a bad experiment? [credit to @bhorowitz for the style]

2/ Good experiments advance product strategy. Bad experiments only advance metrics.
3/ Good experiments are built around product themes. Bad experiments are scattered, one-off tests that stand alone.

1/ So.. I take that back. This is actually a really big deal.

Let's talk about the 85k customers number.

Two years ago, it wasn't clear this was possible. It would have been easy to say "we are an enterprise company now, let's focus 100% on those large customers".
2/ Instead, we built a new team to tackle the problem. It started out as "conversion growth", but then we called it "Upgrades & Expansion", and now it's called "Monetization" as part of our broader Lifecycle team.
