No element of sirprise in the lad's act. Continuous & persistent nagging by mother to study anytime, everytime, all the time within the four walls of the house is harassment. Her nagging would have got on his nerves. No place to escape, he confronted the harassment; not his mom!

Having said that, it is not to be inferred that I support or justify the crime. Home is the only place for anyone to be as they are, without judgements. Continuous & persistent fault finding & nagging is psychological torture inflicted upon the member: & no other place to escape!

The problem or issue here is not with the lad, rather bad or inappropriate parenting. Treat every member of the family with respect & dignity. Pin point the lacunae, & allow them to make their decisions. Refrain from continuous nagging, for the lad did make his decision - here!

Who is happy here- dad, mom, son? Who won? Did the continuous nagging by the mom, though in all good intention, succeed? The belief that the 'aged' or 'elderly' are ever correct is the issue here. Respect eveyone regardless of their age. Treat everyone with dignity.

Understand and accept, one can take the horse to the pond, but none can make the horse drink the water. Respect one's limitations. Respect other's choice. Just because one is dependent, does not grant the parents complete authority over their children.

The lad in this case needs consultation, change of environment, psychological support & good education; not punishment based on penal code sections.
Sensible to keep the lad away from family, in a safe & cordial environment that support his education - with ➕

Occasional interaction with the family member of his choice, if desired. I do not mean incarceration here or juvenile care., rather a hostel in a school, ofcourse under the supervision of a legal guardian.
