🧵A fascinating—and revealing—Hebrew-only piece today in the settlers’ outlet Arutz Sheva, written by extremist settler Elisha Yered, laying out the settlers’ systematic strategy of building illegal outposts on Palestinian land to expand Jewish control of the West Bank. Image
He starts by noting that every faction of the settler movement—from the violent hilltop youths to the leaders of the official settlement councils—works in close coordination. So much for the idea of a few fringe extremists. Image
He dives right into the debate I’ve been tweeting about recently: those who believe in ethnic cleansing through authorized, state-backed settlement construction vs. those who believe they need to be completely unshackled from the state to seize land on their own terms. Image
From my last substack piece: "it’s worth remembering that years ago, before settlers rose to the highest levels of government, the Israeli military often found itself chasing them around the hills of the West Bank, frustrated that they were trying to carry out ethnic cleansing on their own terms. Among those being chased were Smotrich and Ben Gvir themselves, back when they were fringe provocateurs rather than government ministers. Their freelance violence created instability the army had to contain, rather than the more orderly, state-sanctioned version of land theft carried out through official settlement building."Image
Image
On the Israeli state deciding it wasn’t worth fighting the hilltop movement, and instead choosing to redirect it in more convenient, easier-to-contain directions — allowing settlers to keep moving the goalposts and establish more "facts on the ground." Image
More on that strategy. Again, can't emphasize enough: The state was always committed to ethnic cleansing via settlement growth — the settlers simply kept pushing it to loosen the leash. Image
"the farms that began with a single trailer placed under the radar are now proudly emerging in large numbers, receiving official protection from the military. At the field level, fruitful cooperation has been established between them in a variety of areas" Image
An incredible interpretation of the Oslo Accords in which the settlers, actually, are the ones who got screwed: Image
Does this look like the strategy of a rogue band of misguided youths? Image
"In order to control Judea and Samaria, prevent a Palestinian state, and protect the existing settlements, it is simply impossible to be satisfied with settlement blocs and a few strips and 'islands.'" Image
But forget all that. God promised us all the land, and we will take it. Image
To the violent settlers being dismissed as “anarchists” by Israeli authorities — I hope you realize you actually have "tremendous public support... everywhere from the people of Israel." Image
What this piece makes brutally clear is that the old distinction between authorized ethnic cleansing via settlement building and freelance settler violence has collapsed. The state keeps shifting the red lines, settlers now openly push into Area B and “private land,” and each phase of illegal expansion becomes the next phase of official policy.
Here's the piece: inn.co.il/news/682949
Here is the author of the piece—who was suspected of killing a Palestinian teen—boasting about a visit from Nat’l Security Minister Ben Gvir in August. “This is what a minister looks like who advances a true right-wing policy and supports settlement with all his heart!” Also at this meeting was WB police chief Moshe Pinchi, who two months later claimed my photo of a settler clubbing a grandmother “kept him up at night.”Image

Explain it to me like I’m five: if the one thing drawing protesters to synagogues is settlement fairs, isn’t it reasonable to assume their issue is with the settlement fairs? If they were showing up at any random synagogues, that would be different. But they are not
The discourse is so fucking stupid. Deal with the facts
It cannot be said enough that Jewish activists in the West Bank are treated with nothing but kindness, because they’re not trying to kill the local residents. It’s very simple

This creep started attacking me after I posted that Chabad is complicit in genocide, but that this in no way justified an ISIS massacre at a public Hanukkah event they hosted.

Now, he has been frantically smearing me for 24 hours straight because I advised Cameron Kasky to get to the West Bank by way of Tel Aviv, where he’d be less likely to get turned away than he would through Jordan. This is the same advice he was given by the many Palestinians I put him in touch with. I wouldn’t expect ‘Bad Empanada’ to know such things, since he admitted he’s never attempted to visit Palestine since they’d “never let him in.”

To be clear, this person knows nothing about me and has gotten virtually every detail of my life and work wrong. The lies and smears are tedious enough, but it’s the pathetic bravado of someone who records YouTube videos from his basement all day that really gets me.

A miserable, cynical liar of the first order who cares about no one but himself.Image

It is unfortunate that people like this have any platform at all, but I take great comfort in knowing that there are Palestinians all across the West Bank who consider me family, and who would laugh this fucking loser right out of town.
Literally nothing about this is correct lol. Just bizarre Image

🧵 For the past two years, I’ve been reporting on how Israel uses archaeology as a tool of land theft and de facto annexation in the West Bank. Today, Ynet published an inside account from the IDF’s archaeology unit—the Israeli Civil Administration’s Staff Office for Archaeology—describing a “dramatic transformation” that has accelerated in recent years. “Today, we would never give up. Any place I want to excavate, I excavate.”Image
Image
Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu, recently seen sporting a gold noose on his lapel, has no time for euphemisms: Israel’s archaeological project, he says, is about "uncovering our ownership of this land.” Like I wrote before, "an effective machine for converting archaeological discovery into territorial power." (2nd screenshot from my writing.)Image

The doubled budget and new resources and authority are meant to affect "not only the future, but also the past."

Or, in my own words: The struggle over the ruins is also a struggle over "the history those ruins speak to, and what they say about who gets to live on this land.” Image

I have some incredible news to share. Today, after 9.5 agonizing months, Mohammed Zaher Ibrahim was released from Israel’s Ofer Prison and into his father’s arms. The Israeli military had no right to take him in the first place, and the family credits the relentless grassroots campaign that kept up the diplomatic pressure to free him. He’s in rough shape, but okay, and on his way to the hospital for treatment. Once he’s discharged, his mom, dad, brother, and sisters will have his favorite meal and a very belated 16th-birthday celebration waiting for him at home. I’ll share more details soon.

Now that Mohammed is free, the family is asking all his supporters to keep fighting for the hundreds of Palestinian children still unjustly trapped in Israeli military prisons.

The family requests privacy for now.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone — lots to be thankful for.Image

Mohammed seeing his father for the first time.
Mohammed did not know that his first cousin, Sayfollah Musallet, had been beaten to death by settlers in July. It was one of the big questions hanging over his release. They just told him now. Bittersweet day, to say the least.

Day after the attack: Peaceful olive farming across Turmus’ayya today. The Israeli army is going around to different fields asking farmers if they’re okay (lol). Normally I wouldn’t share a video like this, but idk… I feel like it’s a reminder that real boots on the ground reporting can have an impact?
We are at the exact scene of the attack. At the very end of this video an Israeli police commander shows up. He recognized me and wants to ask me a few questions… they’re “investigating” yesterday’s violence.
Ran into the Israeli soldier who offered me safe passage before jetting as the settlers arrived. He saw the video too and was very very sorry it happened.

October 19, 2025. On the first day of the olive harvest in Turmus'ayyer, the Israeli Defense Force leads a group of farmers directly into a brutal ambush by armed settlers. These people need to be in prison by tomorrow, and the people of this village, and all across Palestine, need to be protected. Enough is enough.
The US Embassy said that no, they cannot protect me. Image

This is me in the black, running while filming a mob of settlers, moments after the IDF sped away.
