🧵FROM “COALITION OF EXTREMES” OF CONGRESS TO “WIDER COALITION OF EXTREMES” OF NDA
BJP has re-engineered the Mandal politics of Bihar & brought the state into Post-Subaltern era. It may look similar to the Congress model of 1950–90, yet it is fundamentally different.

The Congress system was a reflection of a Conservative Democracy in which it stitched together a “Coalition of Extremes,” where the so-called Upper Castes formed an alliance with the compliant Scheduled Castes along with Muslims, and ruled the State of Bihar as well as India.
The Congress ignored the rising yet assertive OBCs (especially Yadavs and Kurmis), and its upper-caste leadership resisted the inclusion of assertive OBC leaders within the Congress system. This formula served the party well for four decades. But by 1990, OBC politics had come of age, and Lalu Yadav seized power, displacing the Congress in Bihar.
Interestingly, Lalu replaced the Congress model of the “Coalition of Extremes” and built a subaltern coalition of OBC–Dalit–Muslim solidarity, and for the next two decades Bihar remained firmly under the grip of Mandal politics. The so-called upper castes lost their political stakes for the foreseeable future.
However, once Lalu lost power in 2005, Nitish and the BJP began working to dismantle this subaltern alliance as well. They understood its contradictions and weaknesses. Thus, In its place, they constructed another formation, a “WIDER COALITION OF EXTREMES.”
In this new extreme coalition, Upper Castes, Non-Yadav OBCs (Kurmi, Kushwaha), EBCs, and Non-Paswan Dalits (until Ram Vilas Paswan was alive) became the core. After Paswan’s demise, and due to sustained political outreach by the BJP, the Paswan–Musahar Dalit groups too eventually joined this Coalition of Extremes.
This massive coalition, spread uniformly across constituencies of Bihar, produced the fascinating political outcome witnessed in Bihar election 2025. Opposition leaders may invoke the “Vote Chori” narrative to save face, but the First-Past-the-Post system functions exactly this way.
Thus, Bihar has now entered a Post-Subaltern, Mandal (−1.0) era by assembling a “wider Coalition of Extremes” similar in structure to the Congress system, yet vastly different in its level of representation, democratisation, and political meaning. Combined with the developmental agenda, this model has the potential to take the state forward.

Muslim psyche, separateness & its politics, should be understood in the light of three Movt-Organisations (Aligarh, Deoband & Tabligh). All three seem separate but emerge out of the same fountain ⛲️ and have common obejective.

Remember one thing. “Muslims could not reconcile to the loss of political power, first at the hands of Marathas & Sikhs and then at the hands of the British”. So, after downfall of Mughal empire, they started re-organising & reviving their faith & politics to gain ascendency.
I will take you through the development of these three movements, which muslims initiated in order to gain ascendency in India. They were - Aligarh movt, Deoband Movt & Tabligh movt, and all three have the same “Intellectual Origin” in Delhi School of Ulemas of 1830s-50s.
Pre & Post Operation Bluestar 1984, terrorists in Punjab (supported by Pakistan ISI) carried out terror acts against innocent civilians. Even Delhi, Haryana & Rajasthan felt the heat.

Post Operation Bluestar and after assasination of Indira Gandhi, Khalistani terrorists both in India & USA/CANADA planned to assisnate of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, to blow up India’s Nuclear Reactor (Pakistani imprint), bridges and public building in 1985.
After killing of Bhindrawale, the terrorists regrouped and through their Panthic Committee issued Hukumnamas to perpetrate terror acts in India. One such group was operating in USA. His name was Gurpartap Singh Birk. He along with his gang of 5 was planning to assasinate Rajiv Gandhi & Bhajan Lal.
🧵When Charan Singh (Jat Leader), the caretaker Prime Minister was not given Aircraft for election campaign!!
1980 Election: Charan Singh was made PM in 1979 by Indira Gandhi to keep Janata Dal’s Morarji Desai & Jagjivan Ram out of office.
So, Charan Singh had already come out of Janata Party (created after lifting of emergency and hosting of election in 1977), and had formed his Lok Dal Party. After Indira’s Congress pulled its tactical outside support, his govt fell short of numbers and went out of office.
Elections were announced and Charan Singh continued as caretaker Prime Minister, till elections are over and victorious party forms the new government.
Many in India & in Congress take an excuse that Emergency was implemented bcoz JP had asked Army & Police to not take orders from Indira govt.
BUT, INDIRA COTERIE DEVISED EMERGENCY PLAN SIX MONTHS BEFORE JP SPOKE. OPEN🧵🔥
Congress system worked though connections. Families passing on the friendship several generations down the line. One such connection was Siddharth Shankar Ray, Congress Chief Minister of West Bengal & Indira Gandhi. He & Indira shared family history. CR Das & Motilal Nehru, their grandfathers, were together in 1922. Both, Ray & Indira studied together in UK.
Suffice to say that Indira & Siddharth Shankar Ray shared a bonhomie and he was in her close coterie. Emergency was instituted on 25 June 1975, but a secret note detailing all the aspects of Emergency was prepared by Siddharth Shankar Ray much before, on 8th January 1975.
Its laughable that Gandhi family had a divine right to rule in a Democracy. So, when Sonia Gandhi took charge of her inheritence (CONGRESS) in 1998, she needed to be educated on India, history & politics.

Remember when Rajiv Gandhi, who had no knowledge of Rural India, startled the farmers by urging them to plant RED CHILLIES instead of GREEN CHILLIES. It made people laugh their lungs out. Sharad Joshi in his satirical book “Jaadu ki Sarkar” also mentions it.
So, when Sonia inherited Congress Party in 1998, both she & her coterie were aware that she is unfamiliar with India, its history, politics and major controversies & policies. Thus, they went for educating Sonia, and invited many academicians & policy makers to teach her.
🧵WHAT SETS INDIA APART FROM CHINA, FRANCE, RUSSIA, AMERICA
At the stroke of Midnight hour, India tried to re-defined itself. But, ask urself a question - Did we really re-define ourselves?
UNLIKE OTHERS, WE FAILED. WE DID RE-DEFINE, BUT WITH LIMITATIONS.
🧵ANALYSIS🧵
While India negotiated its freedom from British Raj through transfer of power on a high table, China was embroiled in a Civil war between rivals, each looking to refashion China in its own imagination. Unlike India, victor in this civil war had complete control over how it wants China to proceed in future.
India may argue that building a sovereign socialist secular republic was our leader’s vision to mould India in a certain way. But Indian Republic has only been an aspiration, coz the limitations imposed by Transfer of power, concessions our leaders had to make on cultural-political issues, in effect constricted Indian leaders to refashion India in accordance with their idealistic vision.
