I got Dave Marsh’s book Trapped: Michael Jackson and the Crossover Dream. It's everything Susan Woodward's book "Otherness" claimed it is. A book length of anti-MJ bile from a white rock critic whom Thriller's success apparently pushed into an existential crisis. Lmao.
I'm not reading it out of masochism, I just want to get a first hand view of how MJ's success had the media establishment pressed even as far back as in 1985. It's an interesting document because it's before any of the later controversy , so you can't blame the vitriol on that.
But boy, there is VITRIOL! Just one typical page from the book. Yes, he predicted that Thriller's success was a fluke and no one would care about MJ in the future. How's that holding up in 2025? Lol. Image
It's a book length rant like this. It's quite fascinating actually, in the fascinating train wreck way. LOL.

It's not about MJ, of course. It's more about the mindset of his media critics like Marsh (who was from the Rolling Stone-establishment, among others).
Marsh spends a big portion of the book ranting about how MJ isn't representing black music "in the right way", accusing him of things like not being aware of black music and its traditions.
Mind you, Marsh is a white boomer and never tells us what he bases this bold assumption on. Nor does he ever tell us what makes him qualified to police black music and how a black artist expresses himself. It looks like he wanted MJ to be some kind of black Bruce Springsteen.
Marsh also accuses MJ of being ignorant of anti-black racism in America. Which is again, astonishingly arrogant and condescending from a white man.
And of course, it's not true either. What Marsh despises in MJ the most, his open aspiration for commercial success, was actually very much related to MJ's awareness of racism, as MJ himself wrote in a personal note to himself around that time. Image
Image
The irony here is that when MJ refers to magazines that wouldn't have black people on their cover because they supposedly "don't sell", Rolling Stone (where Marsh and other like minded critics worked) was most certainly among those. Image
So on the one hand, the gatekeeping music media establishment told black artists they wouldn't put them on cover because "they don't sell", but they also faulted MJ for aspiring to sell so many that he couldn't be ignored and rejected...
I really hope this dynamic and the hypocrisy of the establishment music media at the time will be brought forward somehow in the biopic.

This is what I've been basically told by a Wikipedia editor about 10 years ago as I've been fighting them about lies they are spreading about MJ in their articles. He told me: "Wikipedia isn't about the truth. It's about verifiability." And what they mean by "verifiabilty" is...
... if it can be found in certain, very much selectively chosen mainstream media "sources". So, for example, something like Maureen Orth's nonsensical Vanity Fair article could be used as a source, but primary sources, such as court documents couldn't (at the time at least).
This is also behind the sentiment driving the Leaving Neverland campaign. I've seen several journalists at the time state "it doesn't matter if Wade and James are telling the truth or not. All that matters is that the narrative is useful to teach people about grooming."

🧵Thread:

Reviewing the Estate's July 2025 petition and watching Geragos's interview on TMZ, this is what I think is going on with the Cascio case.
What you witnessed yesterday, MG interview, DM article is noise out of desperation by the Cascio camp, as legally THEY are the ones in trouble right now.
So the bottom line in this current legal action is: after their payments from the 2019 agreement between them and the Estate ran out in 2024, the Cascios went back to the Estate to try to extort for more money, this time $213 million or else! Image

In her upcoming book Priscilla Presley admits that she was in Lisa's ears to not have MJ's child. Of course, she was... 🙄 Too bad Lisa listened to her witch of a mother. She ruined her own daughter's chance for happiness.

And then she projects her own BS onto a dead Elvis. Image
Otherwise it's her usual narrative, but she doesn't realize it's a contradictory one. On the one hand she tries to make it look like he reached out to Lisa after the allegations to clean up his image, but on the other hand MJ set his sight on Lisa "long before she realized it"... Image
... and from interviews with Priscilla we know that was long before the allegations.

It's not true that "Jackson reached out to (Lisa) during the scandal". They started seeing each other many months before the allegations.

Wade Robson and James Safechuck's lawyer, John Carpenter once again proves to be a shameless liar, just like his clients are, who's trying to win this case by using negative publicity in the media.
In his latest filing he falsely claims that child porn was found in MJ's possession and that this isn't disputed.

Well, that's a big fat lie and you only need to think to know it's a lie: had CP been found MJ would have been arrested for it and charged with it.
The prosecution never charged him with the possession of CP, in fact in 2016 Ron Zonen gave comments to People magazine, admitting they never found any CP. Image

Regarding Wade and James now styling themselves as trauma healing gurus, let's not forget that because of their apparent lack of trauma in LN while talking about the alleged abuse Dan Reed felt the need to explain that the alleged abuse wasn't actually traumatic for them.
The alleged "trauma" only kicked in as adults because they had to "lie" about it to their families and it's more about the "impact on their families" than the alleged sexual acts.

(Yeah, subtle NAMBLA talking points.) Image
Remember that in LN the "gut wrentching" scenes of crying etc. are NOT when they are telling about the alleged abuse. When they are telling about the alleged abuse James is like someone with duper's delight and Wade is like a robot recounting a story he practiced many times. Image

To all the people who are worried about what MJ supposed "victims" ( in truth just accusers) might feel when they see MJ's legacy be celebrated:

Well, they celebrate it themselves when they think no one is looking.
I have many screencaps of social media from people close to Jordan celebrating MJ's legacy. From the step father of his siblings commenting on the Bad 25 docu that it's an "unbelievable piece of art" to a close friend of his writing "it's Human Nature to miss MJ" and a lot more.
Then there's The Way Your Make Me Feel being played at Gavin Arvizo's wedding.
