I'm only just processing it now. I had a hysteroscopy today for the first time and normally you're meant to have an anaesthetic; either general or local. I was offered neither and instead, given a paracetamol?
When I asked about more intense pain relief, they said 'I should be fine and should be able to handle it', despite them clearly seeing I was in pain? I was shaking, and I nearly had a panic attack. But they continued while I was awake?
They even had trouble trying to do it, and said so during the process - which made it even more painful. When I asked again for a local anaesthetic, one of the nurses sighed and said 'I should carry on because they are nearly done and that I'm doing well?'
Okay.
And yes. Yes they were.
I needed to make sure that I wasn't overreacting, so I googled the procedure and whether anaesthetic is generally offered/provided, and it is. Why wasn't I offered it?
[rhetorical; I think I know why]
Now I'm sitting here in pain, mad as hell.
According to my Googles, the least I could have been offered was laughing gas or another kind of sedative. When I asked about all these options, I was told they didn't think I would 'need it'.
Was me screaming and moaning not enough??
