I'm obsessed with cognitive biases.

A "cognitive bias" is a systematic error in thinking that destroys decision-making.

11 most powerful (and dangerous) cognitive biases I've found: 🧵

1. Parkinson's Law: Image
1. Parkinson's Law

Work expands to fill the time you give it.

Give yourself a week? It takes a week.
Give yourself an hour? Done in 60 minutes.

The fix: Track task duration and energy levels ruthlessly. Image
2. Goodhart's Law

When a measure becomes a goal, it stops being a good measure.

Exams were meant to test learning.
Now? Schools chase scores, not education.

The metric became the mission—and the mission died. Image
3. The Curse of Knowledge

Experts assume everyone knows what they know.

Result? They can't teach. Can't lead. Can't explain.

Simplicity is an art few masters possess. Image

4. The Bandwagon Effect

We follow the crowd without thinking. Everyone's doing it? Must be right. Except it's not. It's groupthink.

And groupthink destroys independent judgment. Image
5. Egocentric Bias

You think you contribute more than you actually do. In group projects, everyone believes they carried the team.

Spoiler: They didn't. Image
6. Cynicism Bias

Cynical people think they're smarter.

Research proves the opposite. Deep cynicism is a defense mechanism, not intelligence.

Moderate skepticism? Useful. Full cynicism? Toxic. Image
7. Skinner's Law

Two ways to beat procrastination:

1. Make NOT doing it more painful than doing it.
2. Make doing it more enjoyable than avoiding it.

Pain or pleasure. Pick your weapon. Image
8. Hofstadter's Law

Projects take longer than expected—even when you account for Hofstadter's Law.

Double the time.
Triple the budget.

Despite your best calculations. Image
9. Elon's Law

Beat Hofstadter's Law with an insanely ambitious deadline.

Even if it takes 3x longer, you're still ahead.

Elon missing deadlines isn't a bug—it's a feature. Image
10. Loss Aversion

The pain of losing $100 hurts more than the joy of winning $100.

Discovered by Tversky and Kahneman.

Humans avoid losses harder than they chase gains.

That's why fear sells better than hope. Image
11. Occam's Razor

The simplest explanation is usually correct.

Stop overcomplicating.
Stop adding assumptions.

Simple wins. Image
Bonus wisdom from Feynman:

"It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is. It doesn't matter how smart you are. If it doesn't agree with the experiment, it's wrong."

Reality always wins.

I'm obsessed with cognitive biases.

A "cognitive bias" is a systematic error in thinking that destroys decision-making.

11 most powerful (and dangerous) cognitive biases I've found: 🧵

1. Survivorship Bias: Image
1. Survivorship Bias:

We focus on the winners and ignore the losers.

We study the college dropout billionaires but ignore the thousands of dropouts who failed.

Success leaves clues, but failure teaches lessons. Image
2. The Sunk Cost Fallacy:

We cling to things just because we’ve already invested time or money in them.

We refuse to quit a bad job or project because we "can't let that effort go to waste."

Don't throw good time after bad. Image

I used to think people were rational.

Then I found FBI files on Hanns Scharff's "weaponized kindness" technique.

He extracted secrets from 480 Allied pilots without breaking a sweat.

Learn his mind-boggling techniques (they're the ultimate lesson in human nature): Image

Picture this: 1943, Nazi Germany.

A captured American fighter pilot expects torture.

Instead, his interrogator offers homemade apple strudel and asks about his hometown.

The pilot relaxes. Fatal mistake.

Meet Hanns Scharff - the man who weaponized kindness. Image
Scharff wasn't supposed to be there.

Born into wealth in 1907, he was groomed to run his family's textile empire.

By 1939, he was living in South Africa with his British wife.

Then WWII broke out while he was vacationing in Germany.

Trapped. Drafted. Destiny calling... Image

Mental models are rules of thumb that simplify decisions.

Elon Musk is a big believer in Mental Models.

Not only Musk, but also Charlie Munger, Jeff Bezos, and Steve Jobs.

I've collected 7 of the most powerful mental models from history's greatest thinkers: 🧵 Image

The most important skill to master for 2026:

Learning How to Learn.

Here's a 60-second system to learn and remember anything 10x faster (from a Nobel Prize-winning physicist)

The Feynman Technique: 🧵 Image
This framework is from the Nobel Prize-winning physicist, Richard Feynman.

Known as "The Great Explainer," Feynman could break down quantum mechanics for non-scientists.

His secret? He didn't just memorize—he TRULY understood.
With his technique, you'll:

Learn faster, think more clearly, and outsmart 95% of your peers.

Here's the 4-step framework… Image

Yesterday, 3M people found my weird obsession with cognitive biases.

A "cognitive bias" is a systematic error in thinking that destroys decision-making.

7 more of the most powerful (and dangerous) cognitive biases I've found: 🧵

1. Confirmation Bias: Image
1. Confirmation Bias:

We search for information that supports our beliefs and reject anything that contradicts them.

If you hate a specific politician, you only read news that makes them look bad.

You don't want the truth; you want to be right. Image
