You Would Not! 🧵

Sitting still and waiting on the LORD is not easy for those used to instant gratification, instant answers, or those who feel they must do something!

The LORD tells His people this!

Isaiah 30:15
For thus saith the LORD GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.

He wanted His people to trust Him, not others; to return to walking with Him, but they wouldn’t listen!

Isaiah 30:1-3
Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of Me; and that cover with a covering, but not of My Spirit,

That they may add sin to sin: That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at My mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt!

Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.

Before we condemn God’s people who turned to Pharaoh and Egypt for help, we must examine ourselves! What would He say to us?

Who do we turn to? Do we bring everything to the LORD in prayer and inquire of Him? Do we search His Word for the answer to our questions? Do we wait for Him?

“O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry, everything to God in prayer.”

Those lyrics may be familiar to many of you!

As I prayed this morning the scripture from Isaiah above came to my mind; these Words in particular— “In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.”

As I thought about that scripture, those lyrics from the song, ‘What A Friend We Have In Jesus’ above came to mind.

In his letter to the Philippians, Paul echoed a similar Word!

Philippians 4:6-7
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Whose goodness are you waiting for? Who are you looking to for peace of mind? The LORD, through David tells us to wait upon Him!

Psalm 27:13-14
I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

As we wait upon the LORD for our needs now, we can also have peace and anticipate the day that is coming soon when Jesus returns and reigns from Jerusalem!

Isaiah 25:8-9
He will swallow up death in victory; and the LORD GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of His people shall He take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.

And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for Him, we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.

Here are some of the prophet, Zachariah’s Words about that day!

Zechariah 8:3-8
Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of Truth; and the mountain of the LORD of Hosts the holy mountain.

Thus saith the LORD of Hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age. And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.

Thus saith the LORD of Hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in Mine eyes? saith the LORD of Hosts.

Thus saith the LORD of Hosts; Behold, I will save My people from the east country, and from the west country; And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be My people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.

Though the LORD rebuked His people for not sitting still and waiting on Him, He closes chapter thirty of Isaiah with the promise of how their story will end!

Isaiah 30:18-21
And therefore will the LORD wait, that He may be gracious unto you, and therefore will He be exalted, that He may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for Him.

For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem: thou shalt weep no more: He will be very gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry; when He shall hear it, He will answer thee.

And though the LORD give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers:

And thine ears shall hear a Word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

“What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear. What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry, everything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged, take it to the LORD in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful, Who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness, take it to the LORD in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy-laden, cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior, still our refuge — Take it to the LORD in prayer; Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the LORD in prayer; in His arms He’ll take and shield thee, thou wilt find a solace there.”

Beloved, let’s pray the LORD doesn’t have to say to us — You would not! Bring everything to Him, trust Him, leave your cares with Him, and wait with peace, confidence, and hope!

Sit still!

Isaiah 30:7
For the Egyptians shall help in vain, and to no purpose: therefore have I cried concerning this, Their strength is to sit still.
