#LifeOnOurPlanet #TheDinosaurs
I CANNOT WAIT. LET'S BEGIN IMMEDIATELY!
BREAKDOWN OF THE FIRST TRAILER OF 'THE DINOSAURS'--a thread! (1/?)
We start with a scene taking place (presumably) off the coast of Africa: a shark being snatched from the ocean by a Spinosaurus! (2/?)
Note that the Spinosaurus does not have the M-shaped sail present in reconstructions made by Dr. Nizar Ibrahim, and instead resembles the skeletal made by Dr. Scott Hartman. It's also more 'Heron' than WWD2025's Sobek. (3/?)
Eyes. Eyes. Eyes.
Cannot really tell to whom these eyes belong. I presume that the first image shows the eye of some dromie, the second image is probably the eye of the rex, and the third image might be the eye of the Yutyrannus (yes, Yutyrannus is featured in this docu)...(4/?)
GOOD NEWS! THEY UPGRADED THEIR HONKERS!
THEY ARE NO LONGER 'MAIASAURA', AND THEY LOOK REALLY GOOD! (5/?)
We go back to the TRIASSIC...And...What is this thing? Press materials did say that the show will feature Marasuchus, so is this something from its ecology? But are there sailed reptiles in the Chañares Formation? (6/?)
Some sort of rhynchosaur...Rhynchosaurs are also not found in the Chañares Formation...Where are we, then? And what rhynchosaur is this? Hyperodapedon? (7/?)
Some sort of theropod walking in a desert environment...(8/?)
A clutch of eggs, ready to hatch...(9/?)
North America once more.
Alamosaurus are once again seen mingling with Hell Creek fauna. We see honkers, Pachycephalosaurus, vast legions of honkers, trikes...There is even an ANKYLOSAURUS!
They also managed to model the azhdarchids properly this time! (10/?)
Returning stars from LOOP. Plateosaurus drinking. (11/?)
DILOPHOSAURUS COURTSHIP!
It's definitely not the small, venomous creature from JP and JW. Here it's in its proper form: the largest land carnivore in its ecology! (12/?)
REX...With rexlings! It appears that the team tweaked the LOOP rex to make it look better...If I'm not much mistaken, its teeth are no longer small and compact...(13/?)
Zupaysaurus (?) confronting what seems to be a pseudosuchian! The ground shakes....(15/?)
Is this a remake of the K-Pg sequence featuring the Edmontosaurus nesting site?
The compositions we've seen so far are awesome and cinematic...
(16/?)
YES! ANKYLOSAURUS RETURNS TO THE SPOTLIGHT, AND IMMEDIATELY BEGINS TO GIVE THE TYRANT LIZARD KING A HARD TIME! (17/?)
An early sauropod bullying a smaller bipedal sauropodomorph. Lessemsaurus and Riojasaurus? Ledumahadi and Aardonyx/Massospondylus? Ingentia and Leyesaurus? (18/?)
Darwinopterus is hunting Anchiornis (again)...(19/?)
What type of pterosaur is this? Looks like Dimorphodon but is clearly not. It's shown alongside the theropod fighting with the pseudosuchian. (20/?)
GUIDRACO! I'd know you anywhere! MAGNIFICENT! (21/?)
Allosaurus, know when you are beaten!
An Allosaurus (in true Allosaurus style) attacks a Stegosaurus and got thagomized. The stego broke some of its plates during the fight, but appears to be still in good shape.
ILM, I see you can make a proper modern stego after all...
(22/?)
Where is this? What are these feathered creatures? Marasuchus? Or...
If these are Marasuchus, then their pursuer might be one of several types of pseudosuchians...
(24/?)
A Pachycephalosaurus running among a herd of honkers...(25/?)
This could actually be DENVERSAURUS! If so, then this would be Denversaurus's paleo docu debut! (26/?)
Trapped among flowing lava, there appears to be no escape for the poor theropod...(27/?)
A raging forest fire. Sauropodomorphs flying for their lives! (28/?)
One of the most striking and compositionally impressive sequences from the entire trailer. A Hesperornis being chased relentlessly by a mosasaur! (29/?)
TianyuLOOOOOOONG is here! (30/?)
LOOK AT THEIR NEW HONKER! LOOK AT IT GO! IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!! (31/?)
#WWD2025
After some thought, I realised that, in my moment of gladness at seeing a docu that (reportedly and from what I saw) strongly adheres to consultants' views, I have made perhaps my biggest blunder yet. An APOLOGY thread and some explanation:
When I posted this tweet, I was comparing the WWD2025 team's attitude towards consultants with the attitudes of some other teams...
Teams that, for instance, went for a completely-off quetz model even when their consultant explicitly showed how to reconstruct an azhdarchid.
Teams that, for instance, thought a scientifically-credible model looked like 'Foghorn Leghorn' and tried to make it 'scary'.
#WWD2025
It is...inevitable.
BREAKDOWN: FIFTH TRAILER. (1/?)
This is actually just an extension of the fourth trailer. Scenes already shown in earlier trailers won't be covered.
#MesozoicLifeProject
'Why should I help support #RiverOfGiants?'
After gathering known info regarding the animal models and the comic version of Mesozoic Life, I give you:
10 REASONS WHY A FULLY-FUNDED MESOZOIC LIFE PROJECT WOULD BE UNPRECEDENTED AND SPECTACULAR: A THREAD! (1/?)
REASON 1: A NEW SPINO!
Think WWD2025 got the definitive Spino?
Remember: Given the same fossil evidence, there can be lots of room for reconstruction creativity!
#MesozoicLifeProject spino has two features not seen in ANY OTHER paleo docu: FILAMENTS and ROBUST BUILD! (3/?)
