1. Thank you for your admirable research

However, does it matter whether or not those who lived on the real margins as street trans women & cross dressing prostitutes - like Marsha P Johnson - identified themselves as gay or trans

Even in the 1990s doing drag /being trans…
2. … (chicks with dicks) was a way of living, renting & eating

The prospects for poor gender incongruent people are the same today

In Brazil you will make more to survive being a travesti (a TW with a penis) than as an ‘out’ Transsexual woman. In India you will do better
3. … as a Hijra than as a TW

Understanding Trans History is complex, hearing the Trans voice has to be mediated through place, times & cultures

We need to be aware that medical, cultural & social understandings of TP, include self understanding by TP were going through..,
4. .., considerable flux. & change

When I transitioned in 1975 I was called a female transsexual. By 1979 I was referred to as a female to male transsexual

By 1989 I was a transsexual man. In the early 90s I was referred to as a Transgender man & in 1996 I became a Trans man…
5. I still refer to myself as a bi trans man despite becoming a man & male for all purposes in 2005 & having been in a monogamous relationship with a woman for 48yrs

Being a bi trans man is part of how I retain my links with mu part of society, my personal cultural home - the …
6. … space I belong, where I find my tribe

We can use research to debunk theories, even science but debunking the life of
- someone we have never met
- whose time in the world & culture we have not experienced
- whose social struggles we cannot imagine,
is inevitably …
7. … ideologically driven

I would refer you to the many white Christian ideologues who repeatedly debunk the life of Martin Luther King

MLK is long dead but they perceive an ideological threat from the fact that, human faults & all, he once existed

It demeans them not him

1. @garylfrancione for 40yrs, I studied trans lives in a socio-legal context, in the UK & Europe,

That included frequently reviewing what TP & clinicians think about what being trans ‘means’

I found no evidence of any consistent or agreed ideological viewpoint amongst them. …
2. TP & Trans healthcare providers have wide & varied range of views/beliefs about trans identities;
- how TIs come into being
- how they develop
- what transition & persistence mean.

There is little consistency in those views or in any relationships between those areas

So …
3. … I find no basis for the claim that there is such a thing as Trans ideology (TI)

- except Ti does seem to ‘exist’ widely as an apparently derided ideology amongst anti-trans (gender critical/sex realist) activists (ATAs)

Even then, there are a many & varied views held …

1. Laughable - the post below is about me

App. Some TERFs believe I must have been groomed to transition & in my transgender ideology & beliefs by some abusive man/men

I cannot imagine where I found the time for that to happen?

I have had an incredibly busy life … Text from X Jean Ruane @JeanRuane X.com Jean Ruane @Jean Ruane If you delve into her past you might, in addition, also conclude there to be strong evidence of a manipulated, groomed woman, in service to abusive men who sought to have their paraphilias enabled and normalised.

1. (Trans)gender ideology is not real.
It is an invention of people who have absolutely no skin in the game (apart from making: a name for themselves, money, & status amongst other equally lonely people)

They are not trans,
They haven’t got trans identified children …
2. Most of them don’t know any trans people (except to point at)

Certainly hardly any of them have had a trans person direct any aggression at them

And yet:
They think they have an absolute right to stop one of the most successful (98% satisfaction) healthcare treatments …
2. … of the last century

They imagine they know far more about a health concern (mental or physical) than the experts who spent 10yrs training & another 10 gaining experience with real patients

They have never slept with a TP but apparently they know …

1. No it isn’t - we talk to our healthcarers

15yrs ago a lump grew. My GP was concerned enough to refer me for an urgent biopsy

The best place was the local ‘Vulval clinic’ but they arranged for me to attend out of hours

The Dr & nurse were both kind & respectful, but…
2. … best was the nurse

After the lump removal (it was benign) I heard the nurse talking to the Dr:

“I’ve changed the dressings pack, I couldn’t give Professor W sanitary towels.
I think we need to change the clinic name if we are to have more gentlemen attending”

I went …
3. … back 4wks later for results & check up to a joint m/f clinic now known as ‘genital health’

That nurse was a Salford granny in her 60s

They knew all of my medical history & she told me about her grandchildren as she held my hand through a very painful procedure …

1. @LizJone55098804

All Service providers decide what services they are going to provide, how & when they will provide them, & to whom

The only restrictions might be local bylaws, & if they are discriminating against a person BECAUSE of their protected characteristic. …
2. … If a Trans Person brings a discrimination claim to Court that service provider discriminated against them because they have the protected characteristic of gender reassignment, the Service provider has a potential defence as contained in various exemptions in the EqAct. …
3. The TP must demonstrate they were discriminated against because they are intending to undergo, are undergoing or have undergone gender reassignment or are perceived to be a TP.

The Service provider has a defence IF they can show

a. They are a separate or single sex …

1. @AshReganMSP The Equality Act is about preventing discrimination, & harassment including

between men & women
& towards
‘Those undergoing, intending to undergo or having undergone gender reassignment’

Research by @TransLucent_Org has
