"Pollster Lord Hayward was reacting to a report issued by Democracy Volunteers, which claimed to observe high levels of ‘family voting’ the Gorton and Denton by-election"

I smell a rat. Lord Hayward is a Conservative politician.

1/🧵independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
"However, Manchester City Council, which is overseeing the by-election, was critical of the organisation for not raising concerns earlier during the day."

These "Democracy Volunteers", never said a thing, during polling. But a ssoon as polls closed they ran to the press.

2/independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
I had never even heard of "family voting" before this report, and it is very clear that they are primarily referring to Asian families. See this below, to make it clear that this is what this is about.

3/hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2022-1…
However, the claim that they are influencing family members on how to vote is entirely speculative, as to enter a voting booth, to ascertain how people were voting and if they were influenced, would itself be illegal.
4/
It is also worth noting that it was Lord Hayward who was behind the legislation, that outlawed something entirely speculative.
5/
Most "family voting" undoubtedly occurs around the dining table and the living room. It has been noted for a long time, that a strong indicator of how someone votes, are their parents and family.
6/
The concern here, is how those who supposedly observed this, did nothing to alert election officials at the time, but then ran straight to the press, where these claims have been widely reported, giving succour to Reform.
7/
As I say, it is entirely speculative, even if more than one person entered the booth, that one family member, is influencing the vote of another. This claim seems suspiciously like a pre-emptive attempt to blame a Green victory on polling malpractice.
8/
However, given that polling indicates women and young people are far more likely to vote Green, it doesn't make sense that a patriarchical head of the family, would be trying to coerce them to vote Green.
9/
Let me propose a counter hypothesis, that Democracy Volunteers were coerced into believing that they had witnessed an unusually high level of "family voting" by strongly opinionated members.
10/
People might say, my hypothesis is entirely speculative, and where is my evidence. I would say, the same about the claims of the Democracy Volunteers. No evidence, and purely speculative.
11/
Let me look into my crystal ball and predict that if the Green Party win this by-election, that Nigel Farage and the other Reform gobshites, will be claiming that they only lost because of electoral malpractice. But if they win, they'll forget all about it.

I can only think this post/thread is being hidden, as I can't believe that people are so stupid, or brainwashed to ignore that I'm saying.

Mainstream politicians are conmen, using a basic psychological flaw most people have, they forget what politicians said previously.
1/🧵
Sometimes I think I'm the only person who can remember what was said and happened a few years ago. As I said in the post I linked to, I attended a seminar about the then recent 1992 Rio Earth Summit, just months after it.

2/un.org/en/conferences…
The senior scientist who was the chair, and how wrote the standard text book at the time on air pollution and climate change, said "now we know what the problem is, we can solve it"

I said hang on, that is what they said in 1972.

In the last 50+ years, mainstream politicians, obsessed with economic growth use the same dishonest trick to defeat taking action on the environment. They pledge to take action, and when they think everyone has forgotten about what they pledged, they renege on their pledges.
1/🧵
All climate activists/environmentalists need to be aware of this, because mainstream economic growth obsessed politicians, have consistently used the same deceitful dishonesty, over and again. I'm not aware of any political pledge on the environment, that has been honoured.
3/
There's almost a 100% record, of politicians and governments, never honouring their pledges on the environment. In every instance, politicians and governments, subsequently renege on pledges they make, on climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental protection.

The crucial issue is where, that is not a managed grouse moor, has there been an example, where culling Foxes and Crows, alone, resulted in a clear difference to Curlew breeding success?

I mean, it has been tried, so where has it worked?

1/5🧵
I explain and demonstrate in this thread, why the grouse moor management model, can't be copied on other Curlew breeding areas.

Yet advocates for culling predators fail to support their belief that Fox and Crow culling will work elsewhere.

2/5threadreaderapp.com/thread/2043253…
The RSPB @Natures_Voice tried it, and found it didn't make any significant difference to Curlew breeding success.

But @TonyJuniper somehow implies it's not been tried yet, because it's a difficult subject. He's got very selective perception/memory.

At the very best @TonyJuniper is ecologically naive, and is being manipulated by grouse shooting interests, into believing that the breeding success of Curlews on grouse moors, can be replicated elsewhere, with predator control.
1/🧵
I have provided a comprehensive explanation as to why it is false and naive to believe that the breeding successes of Curlews and other ground nesting waders, on managed grouse moors, can be replicated elsewhere, for a number of factors.

2/
Part of the reason, this can't be replicated, as I explain, is because upland grouse moors naturally support far lower numbers of Crows and Foxes, as sheep are generally excluded from them, and there would be very little to support, their populations all year round.

Can I briefly explain the ecological thinking error, in this thinking. You say, there are too many crows, Foxes and Badgers. Well what are you going to do about it. The ecologically ignorant, say, well cull them, and there will be far less.
1/🧵
However, it doesn't work like this, populations of memo-predators like Foxes and Crows aren't determined by predation a.k.a. culling. Common sense reasoning has it, that if you kill ten thousand Crows or Foxes, then the population is going to be ten thousand less of them.
2/
The population density of say Foxes, isn't determined by how many get killed by humans. It is determined by territoriality and ecological carrying capacity. Most young Foxes don't live much past the first year, because they fail to establish a territory.

"Nigel Farage furious as police find no evidence of ‘family voting’ in Gorton and Denton by-election"

I raised the alarm, in the Gorton and Denton by-election, that the allegations of "family voting" were likely false and malicious.

1/independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
The pollster who went to the Tory Press with these claims was a Tory Peer i.e. right wing. It is not clear who these Democracy Volunteers are, and what their political allegiances were.

2/threadreaderapp.com/thread/2027184…
However, it is clear that both this organization, was founded on the premise of "family voting" a conspiracy theory that Asian families coerce family members in how they vote, and Lord Hayward pushed the legislation.
