This is what China has been sitting back and waiting for— America's imperial hubris shooting itself in the foot.
International oil is almost exclusively traded in American dollars; it is what forms the fundamental basis for the US' dollar supremacy.
That will end with the death of the petro-dollar; as the single most pivotal global petroleum transportation choke point is blocked off and holding the world at ransom by bartering that if you want your oil, you have to play by their rules— which will drive the dollar down irreparably.
In order to understand much of the current quagmire with Iran; the importance of oil in the region itself and America's relationship with Israel, we have to go back to 1973.
In 1973, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia cut off all oil supply to the US and other western countries for supporting Israel during the Yom Kippur War.
The United States for the first time played an integral role in arming Israel against the growing socialist aligned, pan-Arab bloc of Egypt and Syria; who had sought to dismantle the fledgling zionist entity for once and for all.
The US saw this as an opportunity to not only deter soviet influence in the region as seen with the likes of Nasser and his vision of a unified Arab world, but consolidating its own position in the region (and globally) through monopolizing oil— by tying it, and backing it, through the dollar.
This bold stance caused mass panic and chaos as it impacted Western states severely; so much so that the UK had to switch to a three day work week to ensure their economic survival.
However, in 1974, Henry Kissinger negotiated an end to the crisis with King Faisal by creating the Petrodollar.
It stipulated that for the Gulf oil producers, in exchange for selling oil exclusively in US dollars (as Nixon removed the gold standard in 1971)— Saudi Arabia and the others, would receive military protection from the United States, against Israel.
That logic of Israel being a legitimate threat was manufactured primarily to convince the Arab states to enter into this agreement; eventually used to also allow the US to build bases in their territories too.
Ignoring the fact that as a unified front, the Arab states would have had nothing to fear of Israel. It had only been because of considerable American assistance that Israel had been able to deter and neutralize Nasser's attack.
The Arab states were subsequently pitted against each other therein, as opposed to collectively focusing on confronting the zionist entity, as previously.
This master stroke from Kissinger resulted in Saudi Arabia becoming solely bound to upholding the interests of American imperialism and corporations (and of Israel by extension). King Faisal was assassinated in 1975.
America's support for Israel's settler colonial project became more unequivocal when the dollar became backed by Saudi oil (and vice versa); as America required a outpost/ mechanism in the region and a foothold into Asia through which it could always consolidate its interests and monopoly over resources.
The fundamental crux of global American hegemony; the monetary supremacy it enjoys, that allows for it to consolidate resources/capital and operate this imperialist apparatus, begins and ends with the strength of the US dollar as the global reserve currency.
And why does it enjoy this status? Because it is what the most essential and important resource (oil) on the planet is traded in. The commodity that flows through every facet of every market; that the global economy relies on the most. That is the primary source of America's dominance today; of its total, unrestrained and raw power.
So now you understand why Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz; why its vying for oil going through to be traded in the Yuan and why it has been so adamant to target America's Gulf assets in the region.
It's all interconnected and interdependent; and the only effective way to nullify and dismantle American-Zionist regional hegemony.
Since 9/11, the Super Bowl as an event has served as the premier springboard to market pro-war sentiment to the public. The Pentagon paid the league lucratively to make it policy that players stand for the anthem and to include more elaborate activities honoring service members— to have flyovers and marching bands.
In 2015, the Department of Defense was giving out millions to the NFL for things like military flyovers, flag unfurlings, emotional color guard ceremonies, enlistment campaigns, and — interestingly enough — national anthem performances.
Additionally, according to Vice, the NFL’s policy on players standing for the national anthem also changed in 2009, with athletes “encouraged” to participate.
Nearly $5.4 million in taxpayer dollars had been paid out to 14 NFL teams between 2011 and 2014 to honor service members and put on elaborate, “patriotic salutes” to the military. Overall, they reported, “these displays of paid patriotism [were] included within the $6.8 million that the Department of Defense (DOD) [had] spent on sports marketing contracts since fiscal year 2012.”
There is a military-entertaimemt complex that regulates and dictates how America is depicted through Hollywood. The Pentagon has directly supervised 400+ Hollywood movies and worked behind the scenes, approving scripts in some capacity in 800 major films and 1000 TV shows.
If a script has any mention of the American military or any form of portrayal of a uniformed member, not to mention if the film requires the use of military weapons, bases, equipment or vehicles etc.— they can only access them through the Pentagon from whom they need approval.
It's not always direct interference or funding exact propaganda pieces to portray the military in a positive light; but if a studio wants access to those resources for a film, it is subject to review and clearance that can be deterred if they show the military in any negative way
Just so you understand, zionism was always rooted in European supremacist, colonial ideals— European Jews colonized indigenous Palestine but viewed Arab Jews as just as barbaric as Muslim Arabs. Mizrahis were even sprayed with DDT pesticide to *cleanse* them of their Arabness.
When Israel couldn't persuade Iraqi-Jews to give up their Iraqi citizenship and come to Israel, Zionist mercenaries bombed Jewish places of worship and importance throughout Baghdad. This was done in order to convince them that it was too dangerous for them to live there.
That Israel was their only safe haven from a supposed fundamentalist Arab hatred even though it was a complete fabrication. They peddled this myth and enforced this understanding through propaganda campaigns. Eventually over 100,000 Iraqi-Jews ended up leaving.
The United States has several military bases in the country, and built the massive $110 million drone base in Agadez which was the biggest base-building effort ever undertaken in the history of the U.S. Air Force.
They use it as a chief operating center for AFRICOM whose influence has expanded greatly across the Sahel— conducting military, drone and surveillance operations as part of their *War on Terror* in the continent, as they shift focus away from the MENA and Afghanistan/ Pakistan.
The closer your physical proximity to the west or your likeness to whiteness, the more sympathy and attention you're afforded. We figure so little in their psyches as opposed to how prevalent they are in ours. Yet I see the lengths they go to care for some, just not for us.
There's a hierarchical approach to how human life is perceived mainly because of how capitalism has historically indoctrinated us with a value-based means of understanding reality; and race intercedes heavily in determining one's place within that structure and how they're seen.
Meanwhile our homelands are suspended in a ceaseless spiral of constant grief and calamity. One thing after another. It's hard for us to quantify or express the grief from this trauma; the toll it takes or the anxieties we carry. That isn't how life is supposed to be for anyone.
Stop calling them sanctions and start calling it what it actually is; economic terrorism. From Afghanistan to Cuba, Syria to Iran and Yemen the US punishes people everyday for not aligning with its interests yet claims moral righteousness and that it values human life.
This has long been their imperialist ploy; where they stifle a country through embargoes and sanctions then point to the resulting suffering and devastation it causes as a reason to justify regime change- towards installing one that's more accommodating to their own agenda.
In instances where America targets a country for regime change, the narrative they run always makes it seem like sanctions or bombing them is solely about targeting/ harming a singular *evil* individual; Saddam or Castro or Assad, hence legitimizing it as a means.
