@GeigerEmilyA Have you noticed that when we say "don't kill innocent humans", we're actually imagining already-born humans who can interact in society?
That's because "humans" has long been shorthand for members of society (members in ways that a fetus and other known species cannot be). 1/
@GeigerEmilyA You might imagine that the world's great social atrocities prove that society must ALWAYS judge membership based on DNA. I suggest that would be WRONG, and we haven't realized it because our society doesn't include a distinctly different species with equal cognizance. 2/
@GeigerEmilyA What if the ancient Greeks and Romans were actually two distinct species (but both able to think like us). They would make war and take slaves and commit atrocities UNTIL they realize that we are equals (Not in DNA but in our rational thinking). 3/
@GeigerEmilyA Society has already developed a framework for protecting the rights of thinking, interacting, members of society, and one of those rights (reproductive) prevents others from interfering with a pregnant woman's right to produce (or not produce) a newborn member. 4/
@GeigerEmilyA The artificial attempt to ADD a layer blocking abortion interferes with an existing member's reproductive rights (and bodily autonomy) creating an unnecessary conflict. You can stop social atrocities by defending the already-recognized rights among existing members of society. 5/
@GeigerEmilyA I submit that true justice cannot introduce a right for one member at a time when it would inherently violate the rights of another member. Birth is the first moment an individual has equal standing with all other members of the "human" family. 6/
@GeigerEmilyA At birth, we ARE perfectly innocent because we cannot possibly be violating the rights of any other member of society. That is the perfect moment for society to recognize the newborn as a new member with its own individual rights (and needs). 7/
@GeigerEmilyA Unlike prenatal dependency (which demands ongoing, exclusive, biological use of one member's body), newborns enter society as independent actors with limited capabilities. Society typically assigns duty of care to the bio parents who (we assume) CHOSE to create this newborn. 8/8
