THREAD: 🧵 The oil lobby is using the Iran war to push more North Sea drilling. But official data exposes the case as hollow. A @BylineTimes breakdown /1👇bylinetimes.com/2026/03/13/the…
As the Iran war drives energy panic, fossil-fuel-funded think tanks & oil insiders are flooding the media with one message: drill more North Sea. But who are these "experts" - and what does the actual data show? /2
The "20 billion barrels" claim is the lobby's favourite soundbite. It's misleading. The North Sea Transition Authority puts proven and probable reserves at just 2.9 billion barrels. The rest? Contingent and speculative volumes that may never be commercially viable. /3
The North Sea has been in structural decline since 1999. New licences have made only an "incremental difference" to output. The NSTA's own projections show the overwhelming majority of future production comes from fields already operating - not new discoveries. /4
Take Rosebank - the industry's flagship field. Strip away the hype: averaged over its 25-year lifespan, it would cover roughly 1% of Britain's total annual energy requirement. Not quite the national energy lifeline being sold to the public /5 bylinetimes.com/2026/03/13/the…
The 200 shut-in wells the NSTA says could be restored? Their total potential output represents about 20 days of UK production - roughly 1.5–1.7% of Britain's annual energy consumption. A marginal gain, not an energy security solution /6
The deeper problem the lobby never mentions: Energy Return on Investment (EROI). As North Sea fields age, you spend more energy to get less out. Net energy fell 46% in the Forties field. Norwegian data shows oil-only EROI fell 56% from 1996 to the late 2000s /7
Operating costs in the UK Continental Shelf rose 41% in four years - from £13.82 per barrel in 2020 to £19.49 in 2024. The old era of cheap, abundant North Sea oil is over. More drilling means throwing money at declining returns. /8
Killer fact on bills: in 2022, nearly half of UK gross gas supply came from domestic fields. Didn't protect households one bit. Energy price cap rose by more than £2,800 in a single year. Domestic production provides zero price insulation because oil is traded globally. /9
Most North Sea crude isn't even processed in the UK - it's exported because Brent-type crude suits international refineries better. So who benefits from more drilling? Not British households. Oil producers selling into a rising global market. /10
Then there's the bill that comes after the drilling stops. The NSTA forecasts £44 billion in decommissioning costs across the basin - £27 billion due by 2032. HMRC puts associated tax repayments and lost revenue at £11.7 billion. The public pays twice. /11
The maximum extra output the industry says friendlier tax and regulation could unlock amounts to roughly 10% of current annual UK energy demand - gross, before accounting for declining net energy returns, and still sold into globally priced markets /12
The alternative the lobby is suppressing: expansion of wind, solar, batteries and grid could deliver mostly clean electricity system within 5 years - as electricity underpins transport, heating and industry, it breaks structural fossil fuel dependence across the 2030s /13
The lobby says Britain can drill its way to cheaper, more secure energy. The industry's own data says it cannot. Operating costs up 41%. Net returns falling for decades. No price relief in 2022 even with domestic gas covering nearly half of supply. /14
The "drill more" argument is not an energy security policy. It is a profit strategy - dressed up in the language of national interest, amplified by a press that rarely asks who is paying for the analysis./15 bylinetimes.com/2026/03/13/the…

BREAKING: Prime Minister Keir Starmer knew of Mandelson's intimate friendship with Epstein years after conviction (up to 2014), about his ties to a sanctioned Russian defence giant and that Palantir remained his client - *during his ambassadorship* /1 bylinetimes.com/2026/03/11/rev…
Govt due diligence stated that “the retained role and interest in Global Counsel would have to cease if appointed HMA” – His Majesty’s Ambassador. Lord Mandelson did not comply. /2
Despite that advice, Mandelson continued to retain his 21% shareholding in Global Counsel until February 2026, when revelations of the depth of his relationship with Epstein came to light. /3
EXCLUSIVE: 1/ 18 years ago I wrote a 95-page report predicting when and why the US would attack Iran - and every consequence now unfolding. This is about seizing Iran's oil just as US shale enters terminal decline 🧵bylinetimes.com/2026/03/10/tru…
2/ Something massive just happened that almost nobody is talking about. US shale oil the engine of American global dominance for 15 years - has peaked. This is not a forecast. It already happened. And it changes everything.
3/ Trump's own Energy Dept projected US oil peaking at 14m barrels/day in 2027, then entering sustained decline through 2050. But weeks before the war, new EIA data showed even that was too optimistic. Production peaked at 13.6m in 2025, will drop to 13.3m by 2027
🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Palantir provided the 'minority report' intel used to justify US-Israeli strikes on Iran - and is now profiting from the war. All three of its top figures publicly advocated for this conflict. One called it an investment opportunity 🧵/1 bylinetimes.com/2026/03/05/pal…
Palantir's MOSAIC platform has been the backbone of IAEA Iran monitoring since 2015 - a $50m AI system processing 400 million data objects including satellite imagery, trade logs and social media feeds.
It works by making predictive inferences from pattern analysis. /2
Critics call Palantir's tool "Minority Report for uranium" and "pretext fuel" for sanctions + strikes.
MOSAIC was derived from an older Palantir system used by the IDF against Iranian-backed groups in Gaza and Lebanon.
This is the AI tool verifying Iran's compliance /3
EXCLUSIVE: 1/In 1996, US neocons wrote an Israeli blueprint for Netanyahu: reshape the Middle East by force - targeting 7 countries including Iran. It drove the post-9/11 forever wars. @BylineTimes reveals: same network is now influencing Trump. bylinetimes.com/2026/03/04/tru…
2/The blueprint was "A Clean Break" - drafted by Richard Perle, Douglas Feith & David Wurmser for incoming Israeli PM Netanyahu.
Its demand: use US power to topple Saddam, then destabilise Syria, Lebanon and Iran.
American military force. Israeli strategic objectives.
3/ After 9/11, Clean Break's authors moved directly into the Bush administration and began executing it.
Feith: Under Sec. of Defense - later found to have fabricated the Iraq-al Qaeda link. Wurmser: Middle East Adviser to Cheney.
Doctrine became war.
BREAKING: Convicted far-right criminal Tommy Robinson reposts call for PM Keir Starmer to be bombed to death like Ayatollah Khamenei as he was handed extraordinary access to the US State Department by the Trump administration /1 bylinetimes.com/2026/03/02/tom…
Elon Musk writes "Another one bites the dust" after reports of Khamenei's death. An extremist Republican posts "Keir Starmer is next", and Yaxley-Lennon - during his trip to America - amplifies the death threat to his 1.9 million followers /2
Yaxley-Lennon was welcomed into the US via State Department advisor Joe Rittenhouse - who previously facilitated return of the founders of Tenet Media, the conduit for Kremlin-funded disinformation /3
EXCLUSIVE: Reform's Matt Goodwin told the architect of Project 2025: "It's not enough to win an election - you also need to completely rewire the system." Here's what we found on Reform's plans to import Trumpian autocracy to Britain /1 🧵bylinetimes.com/2026/02/25/ref…
In a podcast with Kevin Roberts - the Heritage Foundation president and architect of Project 2025 - Matt Goodwin urged Britain to copy "what has worked in Florida and Texas" Translation: voter suppression laws that made it harder for minorities to vote /2
Goodwin called Farage "an ally of Donald Trump" running "the Trump playbook" and said UK conservatism is "five to seven years behind" America.
His prescription? Import JD Vance's talking points on "woke ideology." /3
