„Ali Larijani, Iran’s top security official, strolled confidently in dark sunglasses and a black coat Friday through a rally of regime loyalists in central Tehran. It was his first public appearance in a war in which he was a known target.
2).
– »Brave people. Brave officials. Brave leaders. This combination cannot be defeated« – he wrote later on X.
3).
Four days later, he was dead. Early Tuesday morning, Israel’s intelligence services found Larijani gathered with other officials at a hideout on the outskirts of Tehran and killed him with a missile strike.
4).
That same night, Israel got a tip from ordinary Iranians that the leader of the feared Basij militia, Gholamreza Soleimani, was holing up with his deputies in a tent in a wooded area in Tehran.
5).
It was the sort of payoff Israel had been hoping for after blowing up Basij headquarters and command posts for more than two weeks, forcing its members to gather out in the open. Soleimani, too, was struck and killed.”

„The belief that Israel and the U.S. could help instigate widespread revolt was a foundational flaw in the preparations for a war that has spread across the Middle East.
@michaeldweiss 2).
Instead of imploding from within, Iran’s government has dug in and escalated the conflict, striking blows and counterblows against military bases, cities, ships in the Persian Gulf, and against vulnerable oil and gas installations.”

„Now, by taking aim at Diego Garcia, a U.S.-U.K. military base about as far away as London or Paris, Tehran has created a new security reality for Europe and parts of the Pacific.
@michaeldweiss 2).
European countries have long worried that Iran might upgrade its existing missile arsenal to increase its range and target them.
@michaeldweiss 3).
The launches make that hypothetical threat real, said Douglas Barrie [1] [2] [3], a specialist in military aerospace at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (@IISS_org).”

„In Nov., officers from the same unit were documented, fatally shooting two Palestinians in the West Bank city of Jenin after they had surrendered.
2).
Footage showed the two exiting a house in the Jabal Abu Dhiya neighborhood with their hands raised. After the officers detained them and ordered them to lie on the ground at the entrance to the building, they shot them at close range [1].

„The strikes underscore the Pentagon’s growing reliance on land-based missiles in its war plans, and the arrival of newer versions of the weapons fired from mobile Himars truck launchers that can shoot and move, making them less vulnerable in an era of drone warfare.
2).
In a conflict largely described as an air war, the land-based systems provide another dimension to the U.S. attack on Iran.
3).
It reflects a larger shift by the U.S. military in recent years away from the kind of weaponry needed to fight a counterinsurgency, like the ones the U.S. fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, to rearming for conventional wars against major powers, like China.”
