In today’s Vatnik Soup REBREW, we’ll reintroduce Laura Loomer @LauraLoomer, an American political activist. Our first possible case of a former vatnik, she’s best known for her unhinged takes on Ukraine & for admitting those were the result of falling for Russian propaganda.
1/20
When we first souped Laura, she was just one of many influential right-wingers and conspiracy theorists spreading vatnik propaganda: the usual, stale Kremlin narratives intended to help Russia with its invasion of Ukraine.
But now, she’s clearly and publicly admitted she was wrong. Now of course, this doesn’t mean that we agree with her on everything now, or that we can guarantee that she won’t change her mind again. But: her previous stance on Ukraine was extremely superficial…
3/20
…whereas her current takes are much more documented and fact-based. Her previous views closely mirrored Kremlin messaging, and in fact seemed blatantly influenced by Russian propaganda and nothing else, such as having “good feelings” about Russia and bad ones about Ukraine.
4/20
Last week, Loomer travelled to Ukraine — a long trip due to the closed airspace, and the obvious risks of Russian bombing — and talked to many Ukrainian officials, dined with Ukraine’s Chief Rabbi @RabbiUkraine, and even interviewed Volodymyr Zelenskyy himself.
Loomer also saw evidence of Russian war crimes and experienced her first air raid alerts in Kyiv — what Ukrainians have been going through for years now.
She even directly addressed and debunked the very staples of Russian narratives that she was previously spreading, such as “denazification” and persecution of Christians.
7/20
In fact, the religious persecution of Christians by Russia is well-documented, and yes Russia spends a lot of effort into accusing Ukraine of everything of which they are guilty themselves: genocide, religious persecution, and being Nazis.
Loomer’s shift is certainly welcome, but some of the framing she picked up from Russian propaganda may sound cringe even with the polarity reversed. Instead of portraying Putin as the saviour of Christianity, now it’s “Putin droned Jesus Christ”.
Instead of Putin the saviour of the white race against Muslims, she now makes it all about Ukraine being “more white and Christian”.
In fact, Ukraine has native Muslim populations like the Crimean Tatars, who suffered deportations and genocide under Stalin and now under Putin’s Russia.
Loomer even wants to ban Muslims from holding office in the US and rejoices at “not having seen a single Muslim in Ukraine” — forgetting that Ukraine is a pluralistic country with Christians, Jews and Muslims at the highest levels, all working together against the Russian invasion.
11/20
She has correctly highlighted Russia’s support for Islamist terrorism and sowing chaos in the Middle East. But her radical anti-Muslim views still make her get Chechnya wrong — Kadyrov has nothing to do with Dudayev.
Support for Ukraine is not entirely new in the MAGA/conservative world. Ben Shapiro @benshapiro has also interviewed Zelenskyy, and Trump’s spiritual advisor Mark Burns @pastormarkburns has completely revised his views after travelling to Ukraine.
Laura’s sudden realization of the obvious also comes at a suspiciously convenient time — Russia is losing, its war crimes against Ukraine and enmity toward America are becoming impossible to ignore (Iran), and… the midterms are nearing.
“After running to the bomb shelter in Ukraine myself several times”, Loomer has called for Trump to “give Ukraine access to Patriot Missiles”. Great, but… those were provided by Biden already, whereas Trump cut all US funding for Ukraine.
In April 2025, he even scolded Zelenskyy for asking to BUY more of them, while accusing him of having started the war (Putin started the war, in 2014, years before Zelenskyy even got into politics).
If pro-Ukraine conservatives can push Trump to support Ukraine, good, but we won’t agree with their “Good Tsar, Bad Boyars”: Trump himself has been pushing Kremlin propaganda & humiliating America by rolling out the red carpet for war criminal Putin.
17/20
We’ve documented how Russian propaganda ecosystems operate online. Certain narratives don’t spread organically, they are boosted by massive troll and bot farms. Coordinated accounts and bots disproportionately amplify pro-Kremlin messaging.
While Loomer was repeating vatnik narratives, her posts received substantial amplification, but then her views dropped dramatically after switching sides.
But of course Elon will still pretend there’s no Russian propaganda on Twitter and nothing weird going on here.
19/20
We won’t judge whether Loomer should be trusted, is sincere, or whether her change of positions redeems her past words and actions.
But two things are for sure: this clearly shows how Russian propaganda works, and fewer vatniks spreading it should certainly be encouraged.
20/20
Russia spends $5 billion a year on propaganda to manufacture support for its invasions through vatniks and narratives such as those previously accepted by Laura Loomer. Fact-based research to counter it takes time and effort — please support our work: vatniksoup.com/en/support-our…

In today’s Vatnik Soup, we introduce Jean-Luc Mélenchon, a French far-left politician. He’s best known for founding the party La France Insoumise (“Unsubmissive France”), demanding submission from his own movement and advocating global submission to authoritarian dictators.
1/23
Mélenchon received his early political education in the Organisation communiste internationaliste, a Trotskyist-Lambertist communist group known for secrecy, rigid discipline and entryism. Lionel Jospin was also a member, and both later joined the Socialist Party.
2/23
Mélenchon was elected to the Senate and was a junior minister in Jospin’s government. He left the Socialist Party in 2008, co-founded the Left Party, then the Left Front alliance with the Communists & ran as its presidential candidate. He was also an MEP from 2009 to 2017.
In today’s Vatnik Soup and our “Degenerate Russia” series, we’ll discuss what kind of lowlifes sink low enough to support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, lie on Russia’s behalf, promote Russian BS, and even gather in Moscow or St. Petersburg to help the Kremlin wage its war.
1/21
For over a decade now and as part of their “firehose of falsehood” propaganda strategy, Russia has been spreading false narratives targeting right-wing/conservative audiences, portraying Russia as a bastion of Christian, traditional, family values.
Russia is also normalizing relations with the Taliban, doesn’t recognize Hamas or Hezbollah as terrorist groups, and deepens its military partnership with the Islamic Republic of Iran, the regime that legalized pedophilia through child marriage.
In today’s Vatnik Soup, we introduce Vincent Bolloré, a French billionaire and media tycoon. He’s best known for building a powerful media empire and for reshaping editorial lines across French media and publishing, pushing them toward far-right and pro-Kremlin positions.
1/25
Born in 1952 in Boulogne-Billancourt to a family of industrialists, Vincent studied law at Paris Nanterre University. He took over the family business and turned it into a sprawling conglomerate spanning logistics, port infrastructure in Africa, advertising, and media.
2/25
Bolloré’s African logistics empire also became the subject of a long-running corruption investigation in France. Legal proceedings against Vincent Bolloré personally are still ongoing, with a trial planned in December, after a judge refused to approve a plea deal.
In today’s Vatnik Soup, we’ll introduce an American conspiracy theorist, podcaster & antisemite, Candace Owens (@RealCandaceO). She’s best known for spreading conspiracy theories, attacking Ukraine, promoting pro-Kremlin BS, and becoming a favorite of Russian state media.
1/21
Candace started her career as an intern at Vogue magazine but later moved into political commentary. Her early career focused on criticizing Republicans, calling their antics “bat-shit crazy.” In 2016, her blog even published an article about Trump’s penis size.
2/21
That same year, she launched a doxxing website called SocialAutopsy. In response, people began posting Owens’s personal information online. During the controversy, she gained support from figures such as @Nero and @Cernovich. And just like that, she became a conservative.
In today’s Wumao Soup, we’ll talk about Taiwan, the sovereign country the Chinese Communist Party insists is not a country, but constantly threatens to invade just like a country, while the “antiwar” crowd is eagerly encouraging them to start that war, endangering millions.
1/20
Taiwan is a country, a state. It has its own territory, government, army, police, courts, taxes, passports and elections, just like any other country.
The only difference? Its neighbor, imperialist China, wants to invade it, and other countries try to please the big bully.
2/20
Taiwan’s official name is the Republic of China, or ROC. The ROC was founded in 1912, after the fall of the Qing dynasty. The People’s Republic of China, or PRC, was founded by democidal dictator Mao Zedong and his communist party, in 1949, after fighting against the ROC.
In today’s Vatnik Soup, we’ll introduce Russian propaganda operations around military targets like Starobilsk. For over a decade, the Kremlin has used similar strategies, combining crisis actors, “independent journalists” and fabricated evidence.
1/13
First, let’s go back to 2014. Russia funded separatist groups and sent its mercenaries to Donbas, which led to the creation of two puppet states, Donetsk and Luhansk, governed by Russian propagandists and soldiers like Igor Girkin.
The fake genocide was touted as one of the main reasons for Russia’s war during the early stages of the full-scale invasion, and the claim was made even by Putin himself. Before his mutiny, late Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin said that all this was fabricated bullshit.
