In today's #vatniksoup, I'll introduce a Russian social media personality and vatnik archetype, Mr. G (@Wagnersfamily). He's best-known for sharing the most outrageous Kremlin lies, albeit previously being extremely anti-Putin and Kremlin, even coining the term "vatnik".

1/19 Image It's worth noting, that G is an extremely irrelevant account and person, but his almost comical descent from an anti-Putin, fully fledged Russian Liberal, to full blown vatnik, who doesn't hesitate to lie and naturally lives outside of Russia, is worth demonstrating.

I've actually noticed this trend on TikTok with our videos - they do relatively well on YouTube, Instagram and X, but fail miserably on CCP's spying app. In the second photo you can see views for our videos, on other platforms these ranged from 500 to 120 000.

"TikTok is more focused on entertainment, dance videos and such" - Well, not really. According to a study, account registered as a 13 year old was quickly served with conflict-related content, and the account quickly delved deep into the conflict rabbit hole.

I decided to do a little non-scientific test: I created an account, used VPN to relocate myself to the US, and just watched what the TikTok algorithm offered me. I didn't like or comment any videos and finished every video that was shown. My age was set to 18.

At first, the algorithm seemed to show me some of the most popular videos on the platform, mostly consisting of cute animals, comedy and babies.

Then, after 30 or so videos, I was shown this video demonstrating the "superiority" of Chinese kindergartens.

In today´s #vatniksoup REBREW, I´ll introduce a Canadian propagandist & social media personality, Aaron Maté (@aaronjmate). He´s best-known for whitewashing al-Assad´s & Russia's war crimes in Syria & for denying Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential elections.

1/24 Image Maté´s biography reads an awful lot like his collaborator @MaxBlumenthal´s. Another failson of a well-to-do and famous father, in this case, of bestselling Canadian pop psychologist Gabor Maté, Aaron similarly fought a losing struggle to make a career in liberal journalism.

1/16 Image It seems that Lizzy believes pretty much any conspiracy theory that supports her worldview. Globalist satanic cults, vaccines/Bill Gates/Klaus Schwab will kill you, HIV/AIDS is a bioweapon, Pizzagate, that Kamala Harris is part fish... it's all there.

In today's #vatniksoup, I'll talk about the state of generative AI (GAI) today, and how it will affect propaganda & disinformation in the near future. The development of GAI right now is so fast, that it's very difficult to keep track of what's going on,but here's the latest.
1/18 Image Generative AI is a technology capable of generating text, images, videos, or other data using generative models often in response to prompts. Some examples of GAI are platforms like Midjourney, DALL-E, ChatGPT and all those chatbots you find on every service desk these days.

In today's #vatniksoup, I'll iterate on the Kremlin's main narratives and how they're currently being used to legitimize Russia's sham election, protest military aid to Ukraine, and confuse people with "whataboutism" ("What about the US/Gaza/Iraq/Israel/Ukraine?").

1/15 Image Of course none of this is new, it's just that the scale is much more massive than we've ever seen before. Russia's "Firehose of Falsehood" strategy attempts to flood us with a huge volume of emotional and biased content to confuse us and distract us from the topic at hand.

This media bias chart from @adfontesmedia provides you a lot of interesting insights. First of all, we can see some usual suspects in the LESS RELIABLE end of the spectrum, including @TheGrayzoneNews, Natural News, Epoch Times, and of course @TPUSA.

1/4 Image These are basically propaganda mills, and some of them are extremely political (pro-Trump Turning Point), some serve foreign interests and are connected to foreign intelligence (@TheGrayzoneNews) and some just post made-up BS for conspiracy theorists (Natural News).

In today's #vatniksoup, I'll talk about TikTok (@tiktok_us), why some of the US legislators want to ban it, what are the app's connections to the Chinese Communist Party, and how the app has changed the social media landscape, especially among young people.

1/23 Image Tiktok's potential reach and potential political impact is actually huge, which is why US politicians are currently having such a heated debate over it right now. First of all, TikTok has over 1 billion monthly active users & it's been downloaded more than 4.1 billion times.

In today's #vatniksoup, I'll talk about the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) and how pro-Kremlin propagandists, oligarchs and lawyers are using its "persecution" as a tool to reduce support for Ukraine and its government.

1/20 Image In Oct 2023, @tuckercarlson published an episode on Joe Biden "backing the Ukrainian government as it throws priests in jail," in which he interviewed Bob Amsterdam, a lawyer representing the UOC-MP. He was hired by a Russian oligarch, Vadym Novynskyi, for the job.

In today's #vatniksoup, I'll talk about hybrid operations in the context of information operations. Hybrid operations are a blend of political warfare and influencing methods like employing troll/bot farms, and spreading fake news, propaganda and disinformation.

1/21 Image In this thread, I will demonstrate four case studies on how Russian operatives conduct hybrid operations on three different continents. All of them have distinct characteristics, but rely on the same mechanisms, like using social media to spread the message.

1/18 Image In his early years, Michel became part of Front de la Jeunesse, a far-right militia. In 1980, members of the organization killed a French-Algerian man in Brussels. In 1981, they burned down a publishing house for a magazine who exposed the organization's internal structures.

1/22 Image Julian's activism probably comes from his father, John Shipton, an "anti-war activist" who's helped Julian with launching WikiLeaks and the WikiLeaks Party. He also arranged a trip to Syria to meet with Bashar al-Assad and even planned to open an office for the party there.
