Ok, here we go! Over the course of this afternoon I will reveal my top 10 #TVShowsOf2017 and top 20 #FilmsOf2017 🍿
As always, if I haven’t seen it, it won’t be in the list. So, for example, Black Mirror has arrived too late and won’t be in there.
Also, these are my opinions. Feel free to let me know yours.
#TVShowsOf2017 10. The League of Gentlemen
Incredibly funny, fantastic to have them back!
9. Star Trek: Discovery
Action packed and exciting. Proper Sci-Fi
8. The Great British Bake Off
New hosts, new judge, new channel. Still excellent.
It doesn’t quite match up to the excellent original but there is still a lot to love here. If you enjoyed the first, you will enjoy this. Julianne Moore and Elton John are great.
The most original film of the year. An oil painting turned into a film, this is unlike anything I’ve seen before. Good performances throughout and packing an emotional punch.
A superb remake of the Disney classic. Good performances throughout, enough freshened and new with plenty kept faithful to the animation. A lovely film.
There’s a lot to love in this entry to the Star Wars Saga. It didn’t all work, particularly moments of humour that fell flat, but it’s still an enjoyable ride.
Farewell Carrie Fisher, RIP.
Sony made a deal with Marvel in the hope of making a great Spider-Man movie, it’s worked. This is funny, thrilling and hugely entertaining. Holland and Keaton are excellent.
DC finally made a fantastic entry to their DCEU. The third act was a bit of a let down but the build up is superb. The trench scene is one of the scenes of the year. Looking forward to the sequel.
Nolan’s War epic. A cinematic experience unlike any other from this year. Hugely tense, beautifully shot, immense soundtrack. The cast is great (even Harry Styles). Mega.
A 90-minute shootout. This film was absolutely mental. Very funny, full of action and so entertaining. Cillian Murphy and Sharlto Copley in great form.
By far the best Wolverine film. Arguably the best X-Men film. Full of emotion, drama and action. A fitting send off to Hugh Jackman’s reign as Logan. Patrick Stewart is incredible. Huge performance from young Dafne Keen. Excellent.
So nearly my film of the year. I fell in love with this film. So re-watchable. Unbelievably good action sequences. Great performances throughout. The craft in making this film, syncing action to music is utter genius. I want to watch it again. Now.
My film of the year. This was the best experience in the cinema this year. Full of twists and turns, tense, thrilling, scary and funny. A great story, excellent script and superb performances. It’s worth watching more than once. So, so good.
So there you have it. My film of the year is Get Out.
Those just short of the list (but worthy of mention) in no order:
War for the Planet of the Apes
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2
Alien: Covenant
John Wick: Chapter 2
Next year, I look forward to many including:

As usual, I need to have seen it, it was released in 2020 in the UK and it is just my opinion. If you disagree, please tell me about your choices, I’d love to know! #FilmsOf2020#TVShowsOf2020
One thing to note, that is different this year, due to Tier 4 restrictions in London, I am going to make #WonderWoman1984 eligible for next year’s list (2021). I am classing it’s release date as 13 January 2021.
#TVShowsOf2020 10. Ted Lasso
A real surprise and a gem of a comedy.
9. The Stranger
A bizarre Netflix mystery drama. Captivating watch.
8. The Twilight Zone
A brilliant reprisal of the old series. Such great, mysterious stories and incredibly entertaining.
A couple of thank yous for getting me through 2020!
Thanks to @RussInCheshire and @FakeHeadteacher for reminding me I’m allowed to feel angry about all of it, and that none of it makes any sense! But also having a sense of humour about it all.
Thanks to @AchtungMillwall and @NTT20Pod for keeping my love of football alive. I’ve desperately missed making the trip to The Den @MillwallFC and hope to go again soon 😕
