So happy with the response to the thread. We are going to add a few more resources which focus on black women & art.

We also implore those with privilege in the Arts to help black women become curators, critics & art historians. Give them the resources to document our stories.
Have a peak at the 2016 Black Blossoms Exhibition catalogue, it includes artists statements from 18 black women artists who were studying at University of the Arts London.

Highly recommend tuning into Sharon Obuobi's podcast on all things African Art.

She recently spoke to Lina Iris Viktor about her art-making process with gold, her views on post-colonial race relations, & reaching audiences with digital media.

Lina Iris Viktor's work is magnificent.

The very last resource we would like to recommend is 'Making Histories Visible' (@MHVArchive) led by Turner Prize winner Lubaina Himid. The site has an extensive international black art & collections archive. True to Himid's practice, black women artists have been documented well
TIME TO ADD TO ADD TO THREAD...

I don't believe I didn't recommend this earlier! Art On My Mind by bell hooks!

There is a chapter which discusses how women are not given the space and time to realize their creative practices unlike men who boldly proclaim they need space so they can be great...
Im really interested in cyber feminism atm and I found a really cool essay on black cyber feminism and intersectionality: papers.ssrn.com/abstract=27476…
Essential reading, ‘In Search of Our Mothers’ Garden’ a warming yet heartbreaking read... it poise questions such as “What was it like to be an artist in our great grandmothers time?” 😭
