Literally no one needs my opinion on the Sally Kohn debacle, but I just saw her on #AM2DM & I am IRATE.

She started with what sounded like a “woke” statement about how white writers need to be more careful in how they quote people of color, esp. women of color. Good. And then.
THEN.

She went on to completely undo any goodwill she *might* have fostered by diverting the topic away from how BADLY she behaved into how it was… an attack on journalism?

What? Whaaaat?
Her whole routine became a breathless: “I will not stand idly by while the good name of journalism is suuuulllllied!”

Sally as The Last Defender of Journalism’s Honor.

I halfway expected her to jump off the couch and kneel while David knighted her.
But what was especially galling was when Sally tried to compare what she had done with James Comey’s memoir and Michael Wolff’s Fire & Fury.

Something along the lines of “If Michael had tried to verify all the quotes, his book would have been a pamphlet!”

GIRL.
Sally.

I'm asking for real: Do you even know what your own book is...ABOUT?!

It’s not a tale of palace intrigue at the highest ranks of power. It’s not about the misdeeds of elected and highly public officials.
It’s about… getting along with people? "REPAIRING OUR HUMANITY" is literally in your subtitle.

TBH, I’m never going to read it, but did I get the overall gist of it wrong?

Have you ever heard of a little thing called context?
Aminatou is a private citizen, not a power-hungry senator.

She “gave” you a “quote” (I'm not even a little bit convinced) about something that could put her in a very vulnerable position.

This is not about pee tapes. This is about having another person’s back.
Dare I say it's about... humanity??
I don't know Aminatou personally, but have been a faithful listener of Call Your Girlfriend for a long time, and I do know this: she’s someone who is incredibly thoughtful about how she engages with the world.

She did not deserve this awful, egregious treatment.
And you, Sally, you are no knight.

You are no defender of honor.

Step all the way off.

I keep seeing mocking statements about how Donald Trump is “broke." Can we chat about that for a sec?

Donald Trump is “broke” because his accountants move money around to eliminate his tax liability; he’s not “broke” like regular dummies who actually pay taxes, AKA you & I.
Even without a single trapping of the presidency, he has lots of cash at the ready. He sleeps in luxury hotels and resorts. He has drivers and open access to high-end cars and planes.

He never has to think about where his next meal will come from or whether he’ll be homeless.
He doesn’t wonder if he can afford top-notch healthcare. If and when he needs it, he will have access to 24/7 care.

He regularly funnels millions to his children, who will never worry about going hungry. They will never lack the finest things in life, not for a single moment.

Last year I had the opportunity to work with an incredible team behind the cybersecurity program at @MerrittCollege in Oakland.

Their new site launched this week, and I’m really proud of it: merrittsecurity.com
@MerrittCollege The program was started a couple of years ago by a group of Bay Area cybersecurity leaders (part of CISE) who got together and developed a cutting-edge 2-year program specifically to make the field more accessible.

Because most cybersecurity programs are prohibitively expensive.
@MerrittCollege Which means diversity in the field has been limited. Boo.

This program comes with all the benefits of a community college, including affordable tuition, financial aid, and many other kinds of support. (And w/ the California College Promise Grant, first-year fees can be waived!)

Oh, the sadness and horror you feel when a woman you respected starts tweeting about how A* Fr*nk*n would have been a great president, and how the allegations against him were false.

So many women still minimize sexual violence.
The senator was not crucified. He has a very good life. He is liked.

He acted inappropriately, and he resigned, as he should have.

I would not have wanted him as my president, not for a single minute.
I am so tired of women weeping over men who do not deserve their tears.

Especially at a time when we have several women running for office whose ideas far outpace Fr*nk*ns in every sense.

Dry your tears, and STOP THROWING SURVIVORS UNDER THE BUS.

People like Mike Pence and the entirety of the white evangelical church are saying: “Racism & cruelty ARE OK WITH US,” and people are still out here saying “But...that’s not Christian!”

Yes. Yes it is. Have you read a Bible? God’s fav move is smiting whole communities, hello.
There is nothing inherently moral or compassionate or just about being a Christian.

Faith in a supernatural being does not make one more likely to treat others with humanity or grace.

In fact, as history has shown over and over, it’s often the opposite.
The “brand” of Christianity has done a good job of convincing folks that it has a corner on morality.

That brand has acted as a cover for people who foster, protect, and advance the interests of racist, power-hungry sexual predators.

The cover is finally slipping. Praise.

This YouTube story is WILD, and confirms a bunch of anecdotal stories over the years about the company’s reckless push for views at all costs.

"Multiple executive decisions...prioritized the site's growth ahead of cracking down on harmful content."

Whenever things like this happen, I meander to a company’s “Values” page to read what they claim to value vs. what they actually prioritize.

Wanna come along? They've had MANY YEARS and MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to work on this. Let's take a peek. Image
Ah. This is interesting.

Looks like YouTube didn’t even bother to create a list of values that would conflict with their growth push.

Sometimes, when a company tells you who they are, you should listen.

(Other times you shouldn’t! But you already know that.)

Here they are:

This is interesting messaging.

On 2/28, Netflix posted a video w/ this Tweet: "Let's make room for voices to be heard, for stories yet to be told." It was a moving video, feat. Yaltiza Aparicio & Uzo Aduba.

The tagline at the end read: "More room. More stories. More voices."
They say there weren't enough viewers for #OODAT. Maybe that's true.

Maybe more people watch the Ashton Kutcher show that has like 6 seasons so far.

Maybe.

We don't know, because Netflix doesn't release numbers. So we have to take their word for it.
Here's that video from February.

I love the message, but... can we trust it? Do you?
