I keep seeing mocking statements about how Donald Trump is “broke." Can we chat about that for a sec?

Donald Trump is “broke” because his accountants move money around to eliminate his tax liability; he’s not “broke” like regular dummies who actually pay taxes, AKA you & I. Even without a single trapping of the presidency, he has lots of cash at the ready. He sleeps in luxury hotels and resorts. He has drivers and open access to high-end cars and planes.

He never has to think about where his next meal will come from or whether he’ll be homeless.

Last year I had the opportunity to work with an incredible team behind the cybersecurity program at @MerrittCollege in Oakland.

Their new site launched this week, and I’m really proud of it: merrittsecurity.com @MerrittCollege The program was started a couple of years ago by a group of Bay Area cybersecurity leaders (part of CISE) who got together and developed a cutting-edge 2-year program specifically to make the field more accessible.

Because most cybersecurity programs are prohibitively expensive.

Oh, the sadness and horror you feel when a woman you respected starts tweeting about how A* Fr*nk*n would have been a great president, and how the allegations against him were false.

So many women still minimize sexual violence. The senator was not crucified. He has a very good life. He is liked.

He acted inappropriately, and he resigned, as he should have.

I would not have wanted him as my president, not for a single minute.

People like Mike Pence and the entirety of the white evangelical church are saying: “Racism & cruelty ARE OK WITH US,” and people are still out here saying “But...that’s not Christian!”

Yes. Yes it is. Have you read a Bible? God’s fav move is smiting whole communities, hello. There is nothing inherently moral or compassionate or just about being a Christian.

Faith in a supernatural being does not make one more likely to treat others with humanity or grace.

In fact, as history has shown over and over, it’s often the opposite.

This YouTube story is WILD, and confirms a bunch of anecdotal stories over the years about the company’s reckless push for views at all costs.

Also cannot deny the thrilling, irresistible pull of "You, and only you, are ultimately responsible" even as I intellectually understand how wrong & broken that thinking is! AND YET.

I want to define my reality, BY WHICH I MEAN make things wonderful & perfect all by myself.

One thing I keep seeing, in the discussion about white women voting for racist/misogynist white men, is some version of “they don’t understand that the patriarchy will come for them too."

I want to unpack that for a minute, because I don’t think that’s it. The reason is directly connected to conservative Christian teachings, and the evangelical leanings of so many of these (52/59%, etc.) white women voters.

Hadn’t been to Vancouver B.C. in a while, and instantly caught the PNW vibe. 🌲 & 🌊 everywhere. That blue-green color palette is sooo easy on the eyes. One neat thing about @dcontentconf is that it feels intimate – there are no separate tracks, just one theater where everyone hears the same talk at the same time.

(I love conferences w/ sep. tracks too, but the opposite also has its advantages.)

Literally no one needs my opinion on the Sally Kohn debacle, but I just saw her on #AM2DM & I am IRATE.

She started with what sounded like a “woke” statement about how white writers need to be more careful in how they quote people of color, esp. women of color. Good. And then. THEN.

She went on to completely undo any goodwill she *might* have fostered by diverting the topic away from how BADLY she behaved into how it was… an attack on journalism?

What? Whaaaat?

Been grappling with the fact that Mark Anthony Conditt, the Austin bomber, was homeschooled.

Homeschooling didn’t cause this. Nope.

But I’ve thought a lot lately about what the act of homeschooling says about a family, and the role it plays in shaping someone’s world view. A New York Times article said Conditt was raised in a “devout Christian family.”

I was too. I and my siblings were homeschooled through high school.

Every morning, we chanted the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States and then to the Christian flag, and began our work.

Seeing lots of: "You cowards with your stupid tiki torches can't even get laid" and sure, cowardice is absolutely at play here

His tweets are vile, but I for one prefer an evil leader who announces his cruel, sadistic, and vengeful intentions outright. No, really. Most evil is smooth and benign on the surface (a la Pence). There is a faux-respectability that masks the truth. See also: the entire GOP.

While the world burns, a white woman whining on FB about how friends should go back to posting about "food & yoga" is... next-level. This post seems like an easy way to advertise that you have no black or brown friends, no elderly people or schoolchildren in your life
