1/ My biggest takeaway from ETH Denver: modularity 🤝 interoperability protocols

Turns out interoperability also wasn’t immune to modularisation.

1/ Over the past 2 months, I fell in love with the interoperability problem. I spoke to nearly every project in the space, and decided to summarize my 200+ hours of research into an article.

Here’s what I learned. 2/ The golden standard is on-chain verification. Every other solution is a trade-off of having verification off-chain (more extensible) and providing security guarantees in order to ensure accurate validation

1/ MCon+Mainnet takeaway #2: The whole DAO contributor funnel needs work:

- Discovery: no Glassdoor of DAOs for beginners 2 browse
- Onboarding: Discords lack process for ppl 2 gain context
- Contribution: DAOs disproportionately benefits self-starters who create their own scope 2/ The most common question I get is 'what DAO should I join'

Usually the best answer I can give is 2-3 ones that I really like, but no one exhaustively knows all the DAOs

Would be great for there to be a Glassdoor for DAOs w/ verified member reviews

You’ll need to think more specifically about what kind of DAO you want to join:
- DeFi protocol
- NFT collection

Maybe that's why CT has been so encapsulated with NFTs - it's where the new ideas are

We need to stop copy pasta'ing the same degen playbook and reinvent new primitives that people will actually use after LM rewards dry up 2/ Here's some shit that I want to see:
- Composable primitives that aren’t possible in tradfi
- Structured products with real-world use
- Reputation-based primitives

1/ Summarizing “Algorithmic Insurance” by @0xtuba for @scribedao

TLDR; Smart contract insurance has PMF due to user need (from degens) and deterministic payout from on-chain events, but also has drawbacks due to subjectivity in the claims process 2/ Link btw: tuba.mirror.xyz/72Oo_gd-e_XxyX…

Context: Insurance is an intuitive use case for defi bc (1) immediate payout, (2) objective claims information, and (3) transparency for the claimant

But adoption is hampered by the trustworthy oracle problem for off-chain data

We'll cover must-dos & 3 scenarios
1) working in CeFi/a big company
2) working in a smaller startup
3) working at a DAO

TLDR; it's all about investing time & energy to showcase your interest before you even apply for a role 2/ First thing before getting a new job is reflecting on ur what ur solving for

Ask yourself
- Why do I want to work in web3?
- What do I want to get out of that experience?

This will help you better prioritize ur search based on sub-industry, mission, size, etc.

It started with core design + trading. Now, crypto is also about art, gaming, governance, coordination games??

It went from tech to money to a social movement w/ political and philosophical implications??

1/ People that don't understand the pudgy pengus don't understand the power of mimetic desire & in-group signaling

If there are people that you respect and want to be 'accepted' in their group, you'll likely mimic their behaviors & actions 2/ Mimetic desire is baked into our brains, as an evolutionary mechanism to belong to a group in order to maximize survival

In our modern society, this is reflected in literally 90% of our actions & behaviors: our hobbies, our clothing, our slang

All to belong

1/ It's finally dawning on me that NFTs unlock the next level of degeneracy. One that is:
✅community-driven
✅internet-native in its social sharing/virality
✅has individual utility baked in

And the next wave of innovation will be to feed this degeneracy

Ser, this is a casino 2/ Community-driven

Everything comes down to in-group signaling - it's baked into our evolutionary need to belong to a tribe in order to survive

3 big identity moments:
1. @VitalikButerin mentioning login with Ethereum + attestation
2. @StaniKulechov's talk on credit delegation re: reputation
3. increasing mentions of Proof of Humanity 2/ Login with Ethereum is something that we already do today, but needs to be seen as its own Web3 primitive

We log in with our MM to dapps and NFT project UIs. All of our data is self-custodied and composable (balances, token/NFT holdings, gated UXs)

1/ ETHcc takeaway #3: DAOs are growing up

If Q1 was all about NFTs, Q2 was all about DAOs - easily being the most used word on CT

DAOs have proliferated across defi protocols to nft collectors + beyond but have witnessed a ton of growing pains

1/ ETHcc takeaway #2: NFTs and DeFi are rapidly colliding together

NFTs have seen a resurgence since its peak earlier this year led by new pfp projects like BAYC, generative art like @artblocks_io, 1/1s like @Ghxsts

And I don't need to restate the crazy punk pump today lol 2/ Now NFT holders are facing the same problems that early crypto holders xp'd, esp those who have a big portion of their net worth in digital assets:
+ how do i get liquidity for my holdings
+ how get i get value generated from my NFTs

that's where the power of defi comes in
