I was asked by so many people on my take on Beauty Gonzalez' "death mask" necklaces, since like them I do collect archaeological pieces so basically we are on the same boat. But one thing is certain, with all due respect to the lovely couple, I will not do that to my own pieces. Image It was the same icky feeling when I saw someone wore colonial ivory hands reworked as a necklace. Why would you that?

As a collector, I see myself as a steward of these objects which will outlive me for sure, until I find a next collector who will care for them in his lifetime.

These Philippine-found Neolithic stone adzes and bark beater are between 4,000 to 9,000 years old! They are some of the earliest proof of human intelligence, on how our ancestors harnessed nature and fashioned “tools” out of them. They could have hunted using them or cut meat. On how the “bark beater”, for example, symbolized a moment where our ancestors felt they needed to cover themselves, marking the birth of some of the earliest Philippine textiles.

This question is very tricky and difficult as it tests one’s ability to distinguish “natural” dual citizenship (as an effect of two citizenship laws) vs. “artificial” dual citizenship (i.e. RA9225).

This issue even confuses a lot of lawyers, often commixing the two concepts. Image It also tests the examinees’ ability to spot that Lemuel was born in 1988, under the regime of the 1987 Constitution where EITHER the mother or the father can transmit Philippine citizenship.

Thus, since his mother is Filipino, then Lemeul is also a natural-born Filipino.

In Visayan mythologies, eclipses happen when the sky-serpent called "bakunawa" (literally, "bent serpent") swallows the moon.

In Iloilo, it is tradition that during an eclipse, people make noise using metal pots to distract the bakunawa and cause it to spit out the moon. Image The image of the “bakunawa” is omnipresent in Panayanon material culture. The "sapot" (hilt) for example of the rare sword of the Panay Bukidnon called "talibong” is fashioned after the bakunawa. Image

I understand the concern, pero kalma lang.

Meron din ito back up copy if in case masira.

Under Section 7 in relation to Section 6 of R.A. No. 6646, the Supreme Court, where the cancellation case of Marcos is presently pending, can suspend the proclamation of a candidate when the evidence of guilt is strong, but NOT the canvassing. It will be an unwarranted intrusion to the power of Congress, sitting as the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Board of Canvassers, if the Supreme Court would intrude into the canvassing.

Siempre, dahil balik regular programming tayo, pinasok natin ang ang kaloob-looban ng QC kakahanap ng antique na pangpapawi sa ating lumbay. 🤣 Anyway, for today’s find are 6 Metal Age potteries accidentally excavated in Palompon, Leyte, during a house construction. The thick calcification suggests that it was found near or by the sea like the dig sites in Isla Gigantes in Iloilo.

With all due respect, this is an example of free speech being compromised by an overzealous Election Officer who fails to educate himself of the basic rules. 1.) The "paid for/by" requirement ONLY applies to official posters printed by candidates. We must not forget that the purpose of this legal requirement is for campaign finance monitoring. It is not a random provision required for no reason.

An “awil” or “unu” is an Ibaloy prestige necklace made of coins that are attached to a narrow piece of cloth. This is exclusively worn by those coming from a “baknang” family, which is the highest class among the Ibaloy people of Benguet on the basis of them being the wealthiest. Image An “awil” does not only manifest prestige, but political power, economic dominion and key role in the village’s rituals. In the photo of the Laoyan family of La Trinidad, Benguet, the daughter of Clemente Laoyan can be seen wearing an "awil" similar to this specimen. Image

There is no “candidate” before the campaign period acc to Sec. 13 of R.A. No. 9369 as the SC has affirmed in the Penera case. There being no candidate before the start of the campaign period, there is no “contribution” or "partisan political activity" to speak of. The legal effect of the above law is that all election offenses and election regulations governing candidates (including prohibited donations) has no legal force and effect before the start of the campaign period.

It was reported that Ronald Cardema was reappointed by the President as NYC Commissioner. It must be recalled that we filed cases against him. In a decision dated Aug 5, 2019, he was in fact found guilty by Comelec to have misrepresented or lied under oath over his qualification. That Cardema did not even contest that finding of the Comelec that the decision became final and executory. This entails that he accepted (and so admitted) that he deliberately and maliciously lied and misrepresented his qualifications just to sit in Congress.

Has there been human sacrifice in the Philippines?

Although now largely unknown and forgotten, but human sacrifice rituals have been documented among the Bagobo people in the Davao region of Mindanao.

[WARNING: the thread can be diturbing] In 1861, Laura Estelle Watson Benedict published the book "A study of Bagobo ceremonial, magic and myth" which described this practice. She wrote that the ceremonial putting to death of a human victim is called "paghuaga" and is demanded by Bagobo custom on specific occasions.
