Doesn’t take much imagination to figure out why two white dudes are running to unseat Hardesty- she’s the only Black lady to ever serve on city council, and the only PPB critic of the bunch.

So save your imagination for the question of “what is Vadim hiding in his mouth?” Vadim makes a weird faceHe makes it in every picture. The difference is always ho... look at those eyes. That’s not a smile. That’s not what he’s doing with those teeth.

He might be trapping a small, feebly struggling rodent in there, but he’s definitely not smiling.

As school starts in a few days, it’s easy to get mad at PPS for their safety protocols, because they are BAD.
However the bigger problems are the directives from the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and the Oregon Department of Education (ODE). So let’s take a look:🧵 First, we have the PPS “Swiss Cheese Model,” which PPS diagrams as shown. It’s a system that relies on a series of nested and hopefully redundant layers. But if only a few layers are holding up the whole mess, then it’s going to fall apart, and there’s going to be outbreaks. 1/

Once upon a time, Perdue Pharma spent decades convincing doctors that the best medical science supported getting the whole country hooked on opiates.
Anyway now people don’t trust doctors when they say “this new vaccine is the only thing that helps covid, don’t take horse paste.” Weird how a Byzantine medical system of grotesquely unethical for-profit firms, with wildly unequal access & outcomes, where life-saving care is regularly and arbitrarily withheld, would engender this kind of mistrust in the midst of a devastatingly mismanaged pandemic.

So I decided to tune into the “choose love” press conference by Ted Wheeler. So far singers are singing about choose love and following god.

I wonder if the mayor will address the concerns about far right extremists coming into Portland to fight people Here are some of the groups asking for action this morning:

Just to be clear: 1 year after George Floyd's murder & the burning of the 3rd Precinct, after the mayor vowed to permanently preserve George Floyd Square as a memorial & city council voted to disband MPD, the city cleared George Floyd Square & shot someone dead on the same day. Correction: City of Minneapolis is ATTEMPTING to clear George Floyd Square.

Jail support completely swept by PPB this morning & needs supplies. This is targeted, coming as prominent activists have been arrested on sealed indictments.

It’s June 1st. PPB & feds know summer is coming. With trump gone, local & federal crackdowns will be better coordinated. Lots of food, water, and soft drinks have now arrived at jail support. A couple more tables would be much appreciated.

All of this is true, so I’m going to post some links of information about grand juries and grand jury resistance The civil liberties defense center has a bunch of information on grand juries. To start with here is an overview of what a grand jury is and how they work.

Okay, late to bandwagon but this collective believes in gardening. Sure, it may not replace the global food distribution network, but everything that we grow doesn’t need to be transported, contributes to local food security and means we can feed our friends and neighbors. A🧵 First I love this book. When I was 15 years younger I had friends who lived at the food not lawns house in our town. They had torn the entire lawn out of their rental and raised piles of food. This is the only garden book that also has chapters on how to start pirate radio Food not lawns how to turn ...

May Day is Saturday, & we’re terribly excited. It’s been 2 years since we had one. A bunch of folks might not know about May Day. So welcome: May Day is one of the fun holidays. (A thread) May Day is, legit, about as close to an Anarchist festival day as you get. It’s got all the holiday traditions: you spend time with distant relatives, you sing the traditional songs, chant the chants. Someone might ceremonially break something.

Lots of grocery stores all over the country lost power in the last few days, so literal tons of perfectly usable food are getting thrown in dumpsters and compactors.

Be wary of anything that’s not cold, or inflated packages. If you wouldn’t eat it, don’t donate it. Dumpster diving is illegal-ish in lots of places. Which is, of course, very dumb, since at worst you’re removing garbage for free.

Food not Bombs would never have existed without dumpstering. And there’s a pandemic and a societal collapse on. People might be hungry.

Some of y’all weren’t around for the Green Scare, or the raids before the RNC protests in 2008. This is what it looks like: a Trump-appointee just listed “eat the rich” memes in arrest documents for a leftist vet, to paint him as a leftist terrorist. 1/ reason.com/2021/02/16/fbi… Even the FBI probably doesn’t think that posting memes, or calling for community self-defense, or posting info on protest medicine, makes you a terrorist. The point is to make everyone a little more paranoid about even being willing to say those things in the open. 2/

Having your gender marked “x” on ID absolutely rules. It’s objectively the most punk rock thing you can have on your license.

But growing up on X-Men comics, you know that the government having a list of all the “X” people is bad news.

1/ In Oregon, there’s no hassle to remove gender from your ID. It’s a box to check on the renewal paperwork. Anyone can just do it.

You don’t have to tell them why.

Just means you don’t feel like telling the government your gender.

Why are they entitled to that data, anyhow?

The weather outside is frightful.

So is the police state.

In the Brigade Workshop, we’re making lots of shrinky dink keychains and earrings. We’ll be putting them up on Instagram. 100% of proceeds go to @DefenseFundPdx and @pdxgdc. Give the gift of your buds not being in jail! A pie pan full of shrinky d... Also: several of these designs are from things given away for free at the various protests this year. We own none of them, and will be making no money off them. We’re just here for the shrunken dinks and the bail funds. DM us if we’re using your image and you want us not to.

Ok twitter, it's Old Anarchist Story Hour. We weren't on the ground at Red House hardly at all, so this is very much not trying to tell anyone what to do. But it's worth remembering that various solutions to the "Security" problem have been tried in the past. (thread) First: We're old enough to remember extensive use of two organizing roles that seem to have fallen by the wayside: Purple Armbands (Conflict Resolution/De-Escalation/Mediators) and Marshals. Neither is perfect, but they're both worth reflecting on. /

Riotsheds: a tragicomedy

Friends, Portlanders, Suburbanites, Lend me your ears: We come to bury the bourgeoisie (in a metal box that costs as much as a year of college), not to praise them. A flier for “riotsheds.com” advertising “free installa These fliers are apparently being handed out in the Laurelhurst neighborhood. The website is real, and kind of awe inspiring. First: if your disaster plan involves locking yourself in a metal box with one door and no windows, our condolences: you have made a bad disaster plan. Riot sheds landing page: banner at the top reads SHELTER DUR

Just arrived downtown to check in on the bizarro attack on homeless encampments that’s been underway, almost literally on the PPB’s doorstep. @1misanthrophile has been here for a while, and has captured some of the altercations so far. things seem to have died down, multiple clergy witnesses and some folks in bloc are on site, keeping an eye out. The newest (and let’s be real, least photogenic) of the Elks is still resting after this morning’s excitement, when it was knocked down by the Thin Blue Line crowd.

@genialanarchist has provided the impetus. So here we are. Ahem:

Q: What do you call a proud boy’s mom?

A: the legal guardian of his children What does a proud boy’s mom call her son?

“Dead to me”

Just kidding. She never calls anymore.

Serious question:
Who is this ad for? I will concede that “Robert and the fine people who listen to his podcasts” is a funny answer.

However, the ad as a cultural artifact also indicates a world where plutocrats skim twitter and then idly make calls to their broker to buy stock in knife missiles—->
