I am in this country because of freedom of movement. My existence here is predicated on that. And I really dislike the way British left-wingers use it as a battleground for their political or cultural identity, regardless of which side they fall on. Some of the people who support us had to conflate it with the membership of a racist (yes, racist) trade bloc - no fucking thanks.
Some of the people who oppose us defer to "the public don't like it" - take some fucking responsibility.

The argument "Leavers weren't going to be satisfied with a soft Brexit/FOM" so we shouldn't have done it is such a nonsensical one. Firstly, don't presume you know what "Leavers" want. Secondly, in the end we didn't give Leavers what they wanted anyway. What we did do is give our enemies the moral high ground by appearing as trying to thwart democracy, we handed it to them in a plate to use against us. No amount of counterfactual pontificating now alters this basic fact.

Has anybody else noticed the stark contrast between the buckets of good faith Keir Starmer is now getting for his Brexit stance as Labour leader vs the constant maligning and distortion of -again- his Brexit stance* under Corbyn as leader?

*Yes, it was his, it was his brief. "Sir Keir, I think perhaps you should, in your own time no rush, say something about Brexit? Please?"

"I hope the Tories go for No Deal to make life easier for Sir Keir"

Unbelievable stuff.

The notion of a "free press" refers to freedom from government interference, not freedom from citizen protest. If they have the right to print lies that harm our lives, we have the right to protest against that and sometimes when these things conflict you need to PICK A SIDE. I saw a tweet pass through my timeline, Stella Creasy claiming that we can't pick and choose which rights to defend. Oh, but you do Stella, all the time, we all do. And today @UKLabour have made it quite clear whose rights they have chosen to defend.

Since the start of Starmer's leadership which also coincided with #LabourLeaks I feel there has been an attempt to shut down member democracy and participation. Never in the past three years have CLPs received such prescriptive guidance around what we are or aren't allowed to do. COVID I think provides a convenient excuse given that the recent lift on the online meeting ban was not accompanied bybany measures to improve accessibility which surely negates any justification for the ban previously.
