Given the attention being paid to attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, I thought I'd explain the six main ways that shipping can be protected. TLDR: convoys are best, but we'll get to them last. Image 1. Evasive routing. Just go round the threat area, like some ships in 2023 went round Africa rather than through the Red Sea when the Houthis kicked off. Obviously not an option for the Persian/Arabian Gulf: Hormuz is the only way in and out. Image
