The US sends $3.8 billion a year in aid to Israel.
However the exchange of technology and tactics does not flow in one direction.
The US & Israel are engaged in a bilateral exchange of information, tactics and tech used to enact violence & repression.
A🧵on this deadly exchange.
In the wake of 9/11 American police departments increasingly looked to Israel for “anti-terrorism” models.
Americans representing PDs across the country have gone to Israel to learn "anti-terrorist" approaches that are in reality just methods of anti-Palestinian repression.

BREAKING: The Oakland Police Dept received $87m from Fed money supposed to go towards COVID relief!
During the pandemic, homelessness in Oakland 📈24% rising to 5,000+ people.
Yet the city, led by Libby Schaaf, decided to give more $ to cops.
There was no public hearing.

Buried in a recent city finance report issued to city administrator, Ed Reiskin, OPD appears to be the only city dept to receive COVID relief funds (known as "ARPA" funds) adjustment to their General Purpose Fund allocation this fiscal year.
Twenty years may have passed but violence, racism, and corruption still pervade department practices. A chat with almost any Black or Brown Oaklander will reveal how little the Oakland Police Department has “reformed”. Federal Oversight was never going to keep us safe. 🧵
"Police are only held accountable if there is overwhelming popular and political will demanding accountability. These legal settlements and consent decrees cannot stop police from being police." - @CatsCommentary

The lies from the Police Officers Association are sickening.
They're telling anyone who'll listen that the City Council already defunded the police (when it was the mayor, and they know that)
They are using the death of a young Black man to make the case for even more policing.
We can't emphasize enough how critical it is to pushback on these lies.
City council members are under immense pressure, from pro cop forces, to vote for Libby's budget, which would increase the police budget by 11%.
We can't let them get away with this.

We are thrilled and stunned by the verdict but we want people to be clear we haven’t solved white supremacy and anti Blackness. The people must know that it was the people who got this conviction. We know that when we organize, we win, and today is proof of that.
Some thoughts...
This decision gives momentum to people to keep organizing, it gives us a boost of energy at a time when we’re seeing a bloodbath at the hands of law enforcement at Contra Costa country.
James Burch, APTP policy director is on with @CatsCommentary, APTP co founder, and @ChaneyTurner. The purpose of the convo is to reimagine public safety and defund OPD.

"We've been trying to get this data for years. It's been incredibly hard to get it from the police dept. Fortunately for us, the task force provided a vehicle even though OPD dragged their feet, the city dragged their feet..." - James Burch, policy director APTP
"To understand the data we hired 2 crime analytics experts from New Orleans, they analyzed the calls OPD received. It's been a real struggle to bring this clarity to the people, and i'm relieved we can bring this info to the public." - James Burch live now on @UpfrontKPFA

NEW: Today we are publishing an analysis of 442,812 calls to the Oakland Police Department in 2019. The analysis found only 4% of calls to police are for violent crime, and that 1% of police calls take up 57% of police time (based on their own record keeping).
Let's dig in. 🤓
The data is published in a report we submitted responding to the final recommendations issued by Oakland’s Reimagining Public Safety Task Force. The Task Force was set up because we've called to #DefundOPD for 5 years & YOU took to the streets last summer. antipoliceterrorproject.org/oakland-is-rea…
