Reasonable critique of the pile-on on 4-R01 tweet is that it's unfair to blame the PI for trying & succeeding given that it's the system that is racist. @MaxJordan_N
I agree: real issue is the system. My earlier thread aimed to point that out, but I think it's also worth asking
whether those of us who care about equity should be participating in the system or if we should try harder to break it. For me, personally, I've made 2 decisions that may have negative impact on my own career but seem worth it to live my values. (but note I'm not v competitive)

There’s a tweet by a researcher w 4 active NIH R01 grants sharing tips for junior scholars.
R01s = 5-year grants that are each a minimum $1.5 million of taxpayer funds.
PI is a white woman & all 4 grants focus on interventions to get Black people to be less fat. 1/
In responses to the tweets many leading Black & non-Black scholars have asked the PI how Black people are represented in the grants, aside from being subjects. There’s been no response to those questions despite many response to other Qs (from jr white ppl about how to do it) 2/
