Most root ancestors of my Métis community were descendants of First Nations from the Algonquin Nation of Trois-Rivières, hired into the fur trade.
Here's the timeline of what happened, with of course, empirical evidences for those naysayers:
In 1648, Baazhińiniwish, an Algonquin Chief also known by his catholic baptism name Charles Pachirini, was granted land (area in dark blue) for his community near the Jesuits at their Trois-Rivières mission.
