This story is about the Hands off Point Peron @pointperon campaign against the proposed Mangles Bay marina development in Point Peron near Rockingham, Western Australia. The campaign began in 2003, although efforts had been made from 1964 when Point (Cape) Peron was transferred from the Commonwealth to the State to be used for recreation/park lands.

The Commonwealth confirmed in 1968 that the land must not be used for private development.

The 33 hectare Underwood Avenue Bushland in Perth contains Banksia, Jarrah, Tuart & Marri bush. This Banksia/Jarrah woodland is one of few remaining in Perth and is critical for survival of the flock of around 400 Carnaby’s Cockatoos.

The #RoeHighway was first drafted in 1955, with sections built over the next 50 years. The Roe 8 section was a 5km heavy-haulage route planned to pass through #BeeliarWetlands, 20km south of Perth, projected to cost $450 million.

It began with Keith William’s proposal to create a 250 berth marina, 1,500 dwelling canal estate and a resort with ‘million’ dollar ocean views, requiring the removal of mangroves and dredging for a marina and canal.
