On the first Easter afternoon, the risen Jesus met two heartbroken disciples on a road.

He walked with them for hours.
He talked with them.
And they had no idea who He was.

It's one of the most quietly profound stories in the Gospels: a slow, deliberate reveal that teaches us how Jesus still meets us in our disappointment.

Two disciples are walking from Jerusalem to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles away. It's the same day the women found the empty tomb.

They're discussing everything that happened — the crucifixion, the confusing reports.

The risen Christ doesn't announce Himself.

He simply falls into step beside them, unrecognized, and starts walking.

Sometimes He is closest precisely when we're least aware of His presence.

This is where Israel stood at the Red Sea, and it's exactly where God chose to do one of the greatest miracles in history.

They left Egypt in triumph.

Sometimes the dead end you're facing isn't evidence that God has abandoned you.

For a few minutes on a mountain, three disciples saw Jesus as He actually is.

Not the carpenter. Not the traveling teacher.

His face shining like the sun. His clothes blinding white. Moses and Elijah standing beside Him. The voice of God speaking from a cloud.

It's one of the most breathtaking scenes in the Gospels and one of the most overlooked.

Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a high mountain, away from the others.

"And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light."

The Greek word is μεταμορφόω (metamorphoō) — a transformation from within.
The glory wasn't shining onto Him.
It was radiating out of Him.

For a moment, the veil lifted.
The disciples saw the divine glory that had been there all along, hidden beneath ordinary flesh.

This wasn't Jesus becoming something new.
It was Jesus revealing what He always was.

Just one judge who "neither feared God nor cared what people thought" and refused to help her.

Everyone thinks they know what Sodom's sin was.

Most people can name only one thing.

But when the Bible itself looks back and explains why Sodom fell, it names something most people never associate with the story at all.

The real account is bigger, more sobering, and hits far closer to home than the version most of us were handed.

God reveals to Abraham that Sodom and Gomorrah are about to face judgment, because "their sin is very grave." (18:20)

The cities were real, prosperous, and, by the Bible's account, deeply corrupt.

He doesn't cheer for judgment.
He pleads for mercy.

That reaction - grief and intercession rather than satisfaction is the posture Scripture models toward a world under judgment.

Jesus told dozens of parables.

He only explained a handful of them directly.

The parable of the sower is one that means He wanted to make sure no one missed it.

It's not really about farming.
It's about why the same message lands so differently in different hearts.

The variable is never the message.
It's the condition of the ground that receives it.

The same word can produce a harvest in one heart and nothing in another.

You've tried to change by sheer willpower.

Read the Bible more. Sin less. Try harder.

And it keeps failing because willpower was never designed to carry the weight of transformation.

Jesus pointed to something deeper in John 15.

And interestingly, what modern brain science observes about how habits form lines up with the pattern He described.

Because it's a limited resource, you can white-knuckle a change for a while, but under stress, exhaustion, or temptation, willpower runs dry, and you snap back to the old pattern.

Anyone who has broken the same resolution a hundred times knows this by experience.

Jesus seemed to assume it too.

He never said, "try harder to produce fruit."

He said: "Apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)

The starting point of real change isn't more effort.

It's recognizing that effort alone was never going to be enough.

Judas felt terrible about what he did.

He went back to the chief priests, threw the silver down, and said: "I have sinned. I have betrayed innocent blood." — Matthew 27:4

Most Christians know Jesus is coming back.

Far fewer can say why.

The return of Christ isn't just a dramatic ending tacked onto history. It's the completion of everything the story has been building toward.

The first coming was promised for centuries and happened exactly as foretold.

In His final hours on the cross, Jesus spoke seven times.

They are the last words of a dying man, but they are unlike any last words ever spoken.

Solomon's Temple took 7 years to build and cost a fortune almost impossible to calculate.

Tons of gold. Cedar from Lebanon. Stone cut so precisely that no hammer was heard on site.

It was one of the wonders of the ancient world.

And roughly 400 years later, it lay in ruins.

The story of the Temple is the story of everything it was meant to teach and everything Israel forgot.

Everyone remembers Jonah for the fish.

A man who obeyed God, succeeded wildly, and was furious about it.

God gave Moses 50 chapters of instructions for a tent.

Fifty.

More space in the Bible is devoted to the design of the Tabernacle than to the creation of the universe.

That's not an accident.

Every measurement, material, and color was pointing to something, and once you see it, you can't unsee it.

Exodus 25:8 — "Let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst."

This is staggering.
The infinite God of the universe wanted to live among a wandering group of former slaves in a desert.

The Hebrew word מִשְׁכָּן (mishkan) means "dwelling place."

The entire structure exists to answer one question that runs through all of Scripture:

How can a holy God dwell among an unholy people without destroying them?

Everything in the design is an answer to that question.

Paul wrote Ephesians 6 from a prison cell.

Chained to Roman soldiers in full armor, day and night, for years.

He had stared at every buckle, every plate, every weapon close enough to touch.

Then he picked up his pen and used all of it to describe how you're meant to fight.

Notice: strength comes from the Lord, not from you gritting your teeth harder.

Sometimes the most spiritually significant thing you do in a season is simply not to fall down.

Every person who has ever lived eventually asks this question.

If God is good, why does He allow suffering?

If He is powerful enough to stop it, why doesn't He?

The Bible doesn't give one tidy answer that resolves every case.

Genesis 1:31 — God looked at everything He made and called it "very good."

Death, decay, disease, and pain enter the story in Genesis 3 after humanity chose independence from God.

This matters enormously.

It treats it as an intrusion, a rupture of something that was originally whole.

Whatever else is true about suffering, the Bible refuses to call it "the way things are supposed to be."

John never calls himself by name in his own Gospel.

He calls himself one thing, over and over:
"the disciple Jesus loved."

Not the smartest.
Not the boldest.
Not the most faithful.

Just loved.

He didn't anchor his identity in what he had done for Jesus.

The Beatitudes are the most quoted, least understood words Jesus ever spoke.

8 statements. Each one begins "Blessed are."

Each one names a kind of person the ancient world considered anything but blessed.

This is not a feel-good list. It is a complete reversal of how human beings have always measured a good life.

Not financially poor, though that's not excluded.

πτωχός (ptōchos) — utterly destitute, having nothing to offer.

It belongs to those who know they have nothing to bring and come anyway.

This is the foundation everything else stands on.

You can't build genuine faith on self-sufficiency.

Right after Jesus' baptism, the moment heaven declared, "This is my beloved Son."

The Spirit led Him into the desert.

No food. No comfort. No crowd.

Just 40 days alone with hunger, isolation, and the devil himself.

Most people think temptation means God has abandoned them.

What happens the moment you die?

Most Christians have a vague idea involving clouds and harps.

The Bible is far more specific and far more extraordinary than that.

It also completely dismantles several things most people believe about heaven, hell, and the resurrection.

Hebrews 9:27 — "It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment."

No reincarnation. No second chances. No soul sleep for most believers.

2 Corinthians 5:8 — "We would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord."

The transition is immediate for the believer.

Not a waiting room. Not a long sleep.

The moment you close your eyes here, you open them in His presence.
