There’s been a lot of discussion recently about #MrBatesVsThePostOffice & parallels with Windrush, Hillsborough & other miscarriages of justice. But we need more scrutiny on the solicitors & judiciary in these scandals.
A long thread.../ We are told in the UK we have a separation of powers - that our executive (govt) is separate from our judiciary, to ensure checks and balances. Even if that’s true, and it’s debatable, the judiciary’s institutional bias in favour of authority is itself an impediment to justice

I see Rupert Murdoch is finally handing over the reins. My own Rupert story... in 2009 I wrote a piece for The Observer about Hillsborough, to mark the 20th anniversary. I wrote about my own experience, but also interviewed others whose lives had been changed 1/ 2/ One woman I interviewed appeared in the piece anonymously. She had been married to "Ian", a man who survived the crush in pen 3, but lost his mate who he'd gone to the match with. Ian was devastated by this, and by his own experience
