Whose father or mother collected $2.5m from Puma for Team Nigeria's kits at the Olympics? Your unfortunate daddy collected money and the athletes are not wearing Puma o. Puma will sue the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and not him to get their money back. He would probably spend part of that money to sponsor you for UK or Dubai master's degree but the dreams of the athletes under him will get dashed if Puma takes the nuclear option of dragging Nigeria before CAS. It's not proper o.

FB and Google are opening engineering offices in Lagos in 2021. If you’re still in school (Uni or Poly), you can now realistically target internships at these companies. Start learning Python/JavaScript. You should start learning how to write well. Don’t spend the time of your life creating fake Twitter accounts for politicians. There are better paying things out there to spend your valuable time on. It doesn’t matter what discipline you’re in.

Amin Adesina’s problem started last September when he publicly announced at the U.N. climate talks in New York that he was working on a plan to scrap coal power stations across the continent. He said: "Coal is the past, and renewable energy is the future. For us at the African Development Bank, we're getting out of coal...There's a reason God gave Africa sunlight."

A Sango priest and his attendant in 1933*.
Why do male Sango priests present themselves as female in dress? Cross-dressing is limited to the male priests. Was Sango himself a cross-dresser or was there an element of transvestism among the early adherents in the cult of Sango?

The idea that it was easier for the British to bring the Igbo under colonial rule is a myth. But, just how did the Igbo who are known to despise any form of autocratic government brought under a dubious system of faux 'kings'? Much of what we know as Nigerian history is largely the history of the observation of the intruders (missionaries, administrators, and traders). Not much is has been written about the reaction of the Nigerian peoples to these groups of intruders.

The date on which Efunsetan Adekemi Abeke Aniwura became the Iyalode of Ibadan is not certain, but it has been situated around the 1860s. What is certain, however, is that she was the second person to hold that position and at the time she was the richest person in the city Historically, the role played by an Iyalode in Yoruba society has been likened to that of modern-day feminism. It has never been a position for 'neutrals'. An adage in Yoruba says “a king could be many things, but no matter how powerful he may be, he can never be an Iyalode”.

The River Niger flows in an unusual direction. While most rivers take a fairly direct route to the sea, the Niger instead runs directly away from the Atlantic Ocean (which is nearby its source), to make a run towards d Sahara Desert. The mystery of the River Niger 'made' Nigeria. Explorers for a very long time couldn’t make sense of the flow and termination of the river. Without the mystery associated with the course of the Niger, the history of Nigeria would be very different.

The preacher here is Muideen Bello, he and the late Sheik Adam Al-Ilory helped to propagate MKO Abiola's candidacy. Al-Ilory was also an ally of Chief Awolowo, his sermon on the death of Awo, 'Iku Awolowo' remains a classic. There are guys like them in all six zone of NG. Al-Ilory silently shaped a generation of scholars, even the current Jamb Registrar attended his Arabic school. The 101-year old school has a global alumni network of accomplished professionals - medical doctors, academics, engrs etc. It's located somewhere in Agege.

I recently just realized that the concluding part of Ayinde Barrister’s Agbara Iku medley is a song about the 1851 British bombardment of Lagos. An unforgettable event that shaped colonial engagement in Nigeria. How did fun loving Lagosians become embroiled in a staggering battle with the British Navy?

Just learned about the passing of Aminatu Abiodun. One of the icons of feminism and political activism in Nigeria. Aminatu Abiodun Iyalode Ilu Ibadan. May God rest her soul. The Iyalode of Ibadan was the representative of women in the Olubadan-in-Council which has 11 members. But she made sure she was known as Oba obinrin (‘female king’, not ‘king of women’).

Random: There is a site in Ile Ife called Orun Oba Ado(the Benin royal ancestral grave). Up till 1914 Benin Obas(Kings) were ‘buried’ in Ile Ife. It’s known as the final resting place of the Obas. It’s widely believed that the decapitated heads of the demised Obas were sent from Benin to Ile Ife for burial and Ife would send bronze heads back to the Benin palace. Back then, a living Oba of Benin was prohibited from seeing Ile Ife.

One sunny morning in January 1938, bricklayers doing house building works at a place called Wumonije Compoud in Ile-Ife made a discovery that rubbished the existing understanding of African civilisation. The workmen were digging the foundation of a house when they uncovered a cache of bronze heads depicting the personality of some of their Yoruba ancestors. 16 brass and copper heads, and the upper half of a brass figure were unearthed that day.

Many don't know that there was a female Alaafin of Oyo. Yes, a woman once ruled the Oyo Empire.

Alaafin Ajiun Orompotoniyun 1554 - 1562(the custodian of the vagina that kills evil plots) was the first and only female Alaafin of Oyo. And, she was different. In 1557, she imported horses from as far as Timbuktu in Mali and had over 1000 horsemen. Archers on horseback to neutralize enemies with poisoned arrows.
