A progressive LG law granting unprecedented political, administrative, and financial autonomy to elected LGs.

To achieve socio-economic development and enhance service delivery for all Punjabi citizens.

By devolving authority to the local level and recognizing cities & communities as engines of growth.

🧵 Punjab’s local governments have ended the five year term yesterday. It was a matter of great honor for me to be able to serve the citizens of Narowal; and to be a part of the historic struggle for restoration of elected local governments dissolved unconstitutionally. 1/7 Our tenure was interrupted but the struggle has ensured that LGs will have security of tenure. Despite the loss of precious time; I feel optimistic about the future of empowered local governments in Pakistan. It has graduated from an ‘idea’ to ‘inevitability’ stage. 2/7

THREAD: The Constitution of Pakistan envisages a three tiered federation; this was asserted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in its judgement in the local government restoration case. 1/5 The discussions on centralizing tendencies of political governments tend to ignore our lopsided administrative structure.
