Tonight’s #AS1282 @NTSB press conference has started.

The cockpit door apparently is designed to open during rapid decompression, however NTSB says even the flight crew didn’t know this. NTSB says Boeing will make changes to its manual to reflect this. NTSB Char @JenniferHomendy once again thanking “Bob,” the high school teacher who found the door plug that landed in his yard.

NTSB is still looking for the bottom hinge fitting, but says it’s not absolutely critical to its investigation.

Tonight’s @NTSB press conference on #AS1282 beginning now, with @JenniferHomendy.

NTSB confirms three prior pressurization issues with the aircraft where pilots had to take action. Correlation unknown now. Alaska in response restricted the airframe from ETOPS. Image NTSB reports that there is NO structural damage to the aircraft. The interior damage is all cosmetic. The door plug broke away remarkably cleanly, apparently.

Stunned to see the news of #JAL516 #JL516 this morning. Amazed and relieved to see all passengers survived, but saddened by the fate of the coast guard Dash-8 it collided with at HND.

Investigators will have their work cut out for them, this is the first composite aircraft loss. This is very preliminary and I can't verify the accuracy since it's in Japanese, but this would indicate that the Japan Coast Guard Dash-8 was instructed to hold short of the active runway after #JAL516 #JL516 was cleared to land, but instead entered the runway.

The @SpiritAirlines board is so skeptical that the much higher value buyout offer from @JetBlue would fail regulatory hurdles that it has said no, and instead it will move forward with @FlyFrontier’s earlier bid. But JetBlue has come back with an offer to divest assets to make it work. Specifically, giving up All Spirit assets in NYC and Boston, and gates at FLL to alleviate Northeast Alliance with AA regulatory concerns.

Also a $200 million break-up fee if the deal fails.

Looks like this morning's synchronized @British_Airways @VirginAtlantic takeoff from @HeathrowAirport went as expected. Really great stuff!

This air-to-air-to-air shot comes from @SkyNews. Here's a great post from @NATS on the technical side of how this synchronized departure worked since it isn't something that's typically possible at Heathrow.

.@EWRairport is efficiency closed right now after an aircraft landed with reports of an onboard fire and evacuation on the runway.
I'm guessing it's this @airtransat 737 on 4R. #TS942 made a very rapid descent into @EWRairport. No word on whether it was an actual fire or just an indication. Either way, superb job by the crew to get it on the ground very quickly.
