Yep. America's been controlling textbooks & what can be taught in school before it was even a country. Missionaries started Indian boarding schools to 're-educate' Native American children into 'civilized' Christians.

Ask Canada how that went. The United Daughters of the Confederacy controlled post civil war textbooks. They wanted to make sure the south was 'fairly represented,' so they wrote textbooks that morally justified enslaving other human beings and claimed the civil war was about states rights, not slavery.

Dear white people who like to jump in PoCs mentions and share your well meaning yet ultimately inept and uninformed opinions about race:

Don't.

(Thread) As a public service, I'm making this thread to serve as a quick guide to whether or not you're ready to talk about race in public.

Not saying this to be condescending, but when it comes to understanding race, privilege & power (RPP), most white people are like kindergarteners.

Dear #WhitePeopleAgainstRacism, it's going to take a lot more than a hashtag.

Getting rid of 45 won't end racism or 'fix' what is wrong with this country. 45 is not the disease, he's the symptom.

Y'all late, but I'm glad you're here. Now let's talk about cognitive dissonance. A lot of white people don't understand how we got here. James Baldwin says white people are trapped in a history that they do not understand. Until you understand it, you can't be free of it, and neither can we.

Herr Twitler is not destroying your country. He's revealing it.

@YesAurielle So I saw the beginning of your thread at 5:30 and I logged off. I had a feeling about where it was headed and how painful revisiting might be. I remember lying on the street in the cold on NYE @YesAurielle For Tamir Rice. There were about 20 people there. And then the women's March came around less than a month later and there were 15,000 white women. where the fuck were y'all? I haven't gone to a protest since the women's march. I stopped watching the news over a year ago.

White conservatives: We will kill you. The president has our back.

White moderates: this president is so embarrassing.

White liberals: this guy is racist so let's make sure to get rid of him in two years or so, Kay?

PoCs: The president is not an embarrassment. An embarrassment is when your mom licks her thumb & uses the spit to wipe the gunk out of the corner of your eye. Or when you walk into an automatic door & hope no one saw you. Not when you put people in concentration camps. That's fascism.
