The ADAH announces an important milestone in our work toward compliance with the Native American Graves Protection & Repatriation Act (#NAGPRA). Our Board of Trustees has approved the deaccession of ancestral remains and funerary objects excavated from two sites in central Ala.
After a period of public notice through the National Park Service, legal custody of the materials will be transferred to a tribal nation. The same process will be applied to ancestral remains and funerary objects from an additional twenty sites over the next year.
