Homes for Black Children, a Black adoption agency in Detroit, is being closed by the state of Michigan. We only have 6 days to keep them open.

HBC was the first Black adoption agency in the U.S. They were the first agency in the state of MI to adopt + foster Black kids. Homes for Black Children was founded in 1969 and is the first Black Child placing agency in the country.

Following the 1967 riots, we were founded to reduce the large number of black children who were languishing in foster care.

When Clarence Thomas was nominated for the Supreme Court in 1991, Black feminists were some of the only people who were willing to publicly stand with Anita Hill. They were some of the only Black people who were willing to critique Thomas publicly. African American Women in Defense of Ourselves purchased a full pg ad in the NYTimes. Dozens of Black women signed their names to it.

Many of those Black women were sent dozens of death threats from Black men + Black women who said they “didn’t play” about protecting Black men.

I’ve been at @nyulangone emergency room since 8pm yesterday. Since 2am this morning my pain has been at a 9 out of 10.

I have been asking the doctors for hours to please follow the pain regiment in my chart and they won’t listen to me. I begged Dr. Lowe the attending to please follow my care plan. I told him I am empathetic to why doctors are afraid of pain mgmt and I asked him to call the pain mgmt specialists.

They come, and I explain everything to the specialists for 40min.
