Eduard Benderskiy, a former high-ranking official within the Russian intelligence services, was named and sanctioned by Western law enforcement agencies on Tuesday in a paper describing him as a key enabler and protector for the Evil Corp cybercrime group. therecord.media/evil-corp-cybe… The identification of Benderskiy is the most significant publicly known government link between the Russian state and the country’s enormous and lucrative cybercrime underworld, although Western officials say the case is exceptional rather than the norm.

So here is Charles McGonigal, the FBI agent today charged with receiving concealed payments from the sanctioned Oleg Deripaska, speaking on a panel with William Evanina in 2017 about Russian interference in the US.

According to his page on the Potomac Officers Club website he led the WikiLeaks Task Force at the FBI which identified Manning and went on to oversee the cuber-counterintelligence coordination section.

NEW: The British government is introducing a mandatory reporting obligation on managed service providers to disclose cyber incidents, alongside minimum security requirements which could see them fined up to £17 million for non-compliance.
