Much as I get why the EA response to SBF has been what it is, particularly in public, I'd like to take a moment to remember the straight fire that is Peter Unger's _Living High and Letting Die_ Chapter 3. According to Unger, only thing SBF got wrong: getting caught. 1/n
And perhaps also hitting some people who are vulnerable, or hitting individuals too hard. But interesting how little of the discussion about FTX's collapse have focused on that question. It's just been: fraud and theft are always wrong. No philosophy there, just PR. 2/n

Advice for applying to PhD Programs in Philosophy. (A significant caveat: I’m the Director of Grad Admissions at Rutgers, a program that focuses on ‘analytic’ philosophical approaches, and the advice sometimes is specific to applicants looking at those kinds of programs.)

Yesterday a prominent philosopher noted he'd only had one Black colleague during his career spent at 4 leading departments. He also noted that he's effectively powerless to change this in his own department. A thread about that Black colleague and systemic departmental change. 1/
