"Native people were killing each other way before Europeans arrived" and yet somehow during all of that time their populations didn't shrink to 2% of the ENTIRE continent. HM. Natives sure as fuck weren't doing this shit to their native adversaries. Image

I know this is going into overkill but since I still have LE stans in my mentions insisting that nothing in this post was racist, I'm going to ask a simple question:

How exactly would you have had me handle this?

Assuming you read this, what would you have had me do instead? Because it seems to boil down to "she did absolutely nothing racist whatsoever and I'm looking for something to be offended by" so what exactly is it that would have been acceptable to you other than shutting up and saying absolutely nothing?

We are really expected to jump through so many hoops to give a racist the benefit of the doubt when they could just choose not to be racist. Do i have to make a birth control allegory so the white feminists in the audience can understand?

Why are you painting people who criticize her racism as lacking in empathy? Maybe if ya'll addressed her racism earlier on and maybe if she had taken it seriously instead of handling it the way she did it wouldn't have got to this point. For all this talk about empathy you certainly don't take a moment to empathize with the people she's hurt. She doesn't deserve to be abused by an endless hoard of douchebags but we don't deserve her racist takes, her non-apologies, and her dismissal.

Allegedly I accused this person of being white when they're Native. Jury's still out on that one for the reasons I've listed in this thread. Interestingly enough the bald white guy coming to his defense likes a certain unflattering familiar face so hm.... Image

"Lindsay Ellis said nothing racist."

"She literally said 'The Indians wiped their own damn selves out.'"

"THAT WAS A JOKE THO." Please whistle at night.

Something that always strikes me about the Wounded Knee Massacre besides the cruelty and horror of it was that it took place in 1890 and how NOT long ago that was. Really think about that. 1890 is just under 30 years before World War 1, just over 50 years before World War 2. Think of it like this: children born in 1890 would've been 83 years old at the standoff at Wounded Knee in 1973.

I was already angry when I saw the video of the students harassing Nathan Phillips. Then when I found out he was the same man who was harassed on my former college campus (Eastern Michigan University) I was seething. I'm sorry these boys thought it was okay to do this to you. This especially upsets me because the reason he was harassed and attacked at EMU was because the university used to have a Native mascot (they were the Hurons, now they're the Eagles) and several male students were throwing a frat party dressed up in red face and warbonnets.

To be clear, Stephenie Meyer DID appropriate and rewrite the culture of an EXISTING Native American tribe and romanticized the physical abuse of a Native woman in her book and her portrayal of Native characters (especially as a Mormon white woman) is cause for criticism. I agree that there is a lot of internalized misogyny and sexism at play with how vehemently everybody attacked Twilight while nobody criticizes the sexism and racism prevalent in Game of Thrones, but as a Native woman who has experience with domestic violence...
