Many pro-Israel commentators are declaring victory at the ICJ. They say “the court ordered the release of Israeli hostages.”

THIS IS A LIE.

Palestinians were not subject to any orders in this case anyway. Courts only adjudicate the cases and claims in front of them by the parties who bring them.

That’s how courts work. A first year law student knows this.
