Devotees are making their way to the oldest Santa Muerte shrine in Tepatepec, Hidalgo, where they celebrate the annual "feast day" tomorrow 8/20 which coincides with the feast day of St. Bernard Clarivaux. Oddly enough the effigy was originally made as St. Bernard but... over time morphed into Santa Muerte. It's been one of the great frustrations of my decade of research on the Skeleton Saint. I visited twice and each time the shrine was closed.
