NEW: "The US-Mexico relationship has never been stronger and more productive," @PressSec claims.
.@PressSec now bashing NAFTA, which is largely the same FTA as the USMCA.
Asked why @realDonaldTrump hasn't taken questions in two weeks, @PressSec repeats the lie that @realDonaldTrump is the "most accessible president" and suggests we'll hear from him "soon"

"We are now in the process of defeating the radical left, the Marxists, the anarchists, the agitators, the looters, and people who in many instances, have absolutely no clue what they are doing," @realDonaldTrump says, comparing protesters to Nazis.
"The power of tariffs, being imposed on foreign lands that took advantage of the United States for decades and decades have enabled us to make great trade deals where there were none," @realDonaldTrump lies, bragging about raising taxes on American companies and consumers.
"Wwe will not allow anyone to divide our citizens by race or background, we will not allow them to foment hate discord and distrust," says @realDonaldTrump, who routinely divides citizens by race and background, and whose campaign has doubled down on racial grievance.

We are 15 minutes into this “town hall” and the only person who has asked @realDonaldTrump questions is Hannity.
Oh, ok. @realDonaldTrump is now touting stop & frisk as a “great thing” @RudyGiuliani did for New York that was “ruined” by @MikeBloomberg.

Trump is now threatening to “go in” to cities for more “stop and frisk.”
.@realDonaldTrump says @JoeBiden “is going to be your president because some people don’t love me, maybe.”

NEW: I talked to some doctors about @realDonaldTrump's ramp troubles. One board-certified neurologist says the president's odd gait is...something that happens with people who have some sort of degenerative brain problem, usually in the frontal lobes."
independent.co.uk/voices/trump-h…
A neurologist and ex-naval officer I spoke with suggested that @realDonaldTrump's doctor, Commander Sean Conley, is more vulnerable to being pushed into lying than the generals and admirals who usually serve as Physician to the President. But a former...

...White House Medical Unit director under @BillClinton and GW Bush said it's unlikely that doctors in that unit would give in: “there is nothing that is going to compel a physician to lie…because…something is going to come out if there is more to it”.

Watching the video feed of the @WestPoint_USMA graduation ceremony, I’ve spotted at least two of the White House “office of digital strategy” people (who create campaign-like videos of @realDonaldTrump but are paid by taxpayer funds) in attendance with cameras.
For some reason, @realDonaldTrump appeared to briefly inspect an Apache attack helicopter before heading to the lectern as “Hail to the Chief” plays.
As the national anthem plays, @realDonaldTrump is rendering a hand salute to the flag.

As anyone who has a clue about this stuff will tell you, this is improper for anyone dressed in civilian clothing as he is. The proper salute for civilians is with a right hand over the heart

HEADS UP: Here's the brief by John Gleeson, the retired federal judge serving as friend-of-the-court to argue against dismissing criminal charges against @GenFlynn. courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…
Gleeson, to say the least, is unsparing in his criticism of @TheJusticeDept's arguments for dismissal.
In which Gleeson states the obvious:

NOW: @PressSec opens her briefing by saying "Hello, everyone. The transition to greatness has officially begun" on the same day a recession is officially declared to exist.
.@PressSec falsely claims @RepAOC is a "Biden adviser."

She is not.
.@PressSec says @realDonaldTrump believes "there are instances of racism" in law enforcement but says police are "by and large, good people."

NOW: @realDonaldTrump tells @seanspicer the protesters are “a lot of bad people,” "some great people,” and "people who don't want good for our country."
Now @seanspicer is asking @realDonaldTrump about “section 230 of the Federal Decency Act,” which does not exist.

Sean also asks about having the DOJ investigate Google for “having a biased search engine,” at which point Trump launches into a rant against Amazon.
Trump claims Amazon has “a big tax advantage” over businesses that “employ a lot of people.”

Amazon employs over 800,000 people.

Oh, look. @PressSec starts off her briefing with a massively ridiculous lie about @realDonaldTrump “bringing back manufacturing.”

US manufacturing sector has been in a recession since last year.
.@PressSec keeps talking about RADM Polowcyzk as if he's been in charge of the supply chain instead of Jared Kushner's unqualified hedge fund friends.
Worth noting that even Fox isn't carrying this live.

No, “the media” did not come up with the “Death Star” name for the Trump 2020 campaign.

A “Republican strategist” used it while speaking to @mckaycoppins on background for a story in which @parscale appears prominently.
Perhaps the reason @parscale is bragging about having built a Death Star is because the Obama administration declined to do so.

(Thread) Reading over Tara Reade’s interview with Katie Harper, a few things in her account jump out as sounding strange to me, speaking as someone who has spent many many hours in the Capitol complex.

Here are some quick thoughts and notes. 1/
First, she says she was told to meet then-Senator Biden with his gym bag in the basement as he returned from the Capitol (the “subway” comes into Russell in basement). Why is this strange? The Senate gym is on the 1st floor of Russell, Biden’s office was on the 2nd in room 221 2/
This begs the obvious question of why would a scheduler for a gym-bound Senator with an office on the second floor of Russell have a staffer bring him his gym bag in the basement rather than have the staffer meet him on near the gym on the first floor. 2A/

Good evening. @realDonaldTrump is going to hold a press briefing starting soon. @CDCgov head Dr. Redfield is present, as is @FEMA_Pete and @Surgeon_General. Dr. Fauci is not present today. Follow along, here we go.
.@realDonaldTrump opens the briefing by saying admin is "working very hard" on getting a group of Americans out of Peru and Honduras.
"We were able to get a young woman released from a certain area who was being horribly accosted, horribly treated," @realDonaldTrump says (whatever that means).

NOW: @realDonaldTrump opens briefing by noting that #coronavirus is in 148 countries, which he calls “unbelievable.”

It would not be so unbelievable to him had he listened to the people in his own administration who tried to warn him.
Trump now rehashing the border announcements from the other day and talking about the 12,000 small business owners (read: supporters and donors) he claims to have spoken to on a call yesterday.
Trump now touting @Walmart CEO’s support. Keep in mind that eight days ago in the Rose Garden, he promised that there’d be drive through testing in Wal-Mart parking lots, which was a blatant lie.

INBOX: @BernIeSanders will deliver a “campaign update” at 2pm.

Not sure if this means much, but a number of my Bernieworld sources have their phones turned off at the moment.
CONTEXT: @BernieSanders campaign announced two Michigan GOTV rallies this morning.

If he is pulling a "Klobuttigieg" type move, it doesn't mean he has to cancel the rallies. Having said that, I'm just rampantly speculating because I can't reach anyone in Bernieworld right now.

NEW: Experts on authoritarianism worry that 2020 could be our last free election: "Republicans have shown no interest in sharing power or having a multi-party democracy, they've shown no interest in the rule of law."

Am I the only one who thinks it's weird that @realDonaldTrump always claps for himself?
@realDonaldTrump .@realDonaldTrump says the "witch hunt" started "from the day I came down the elevator."

It was an escalator. Does he not remember the word?
@realDonaldTrump .@realDonaldTrump says he might not be there right now had he not fired @Comey. He's admitting to obstruction of justice right there.

White House Counsel Pat Cipollone is opening his defense of @realDonaldTrump with a blatant lie about "burden sharing."

Cipollone repeats Trump's false claim from 7/25 call that Germany, France, etc do not contribute to Ukraine defense. US contributed $204.4m, GER $189m
Cipollone's second whopper: Trump has a strong record on confronting Russia.
Don't just take my word for it when I say Pat Cipollone is lying. See for yourself.

Oh my god. The White House is trying to hold a background briefing call on impeachment, and the conference call operator seems to have no idea where any of the speakers are.
This isn't the first time this White House has had trouble with conference calls. In May 2017, a call featuring @MickMulvaneyOMB turned into a complete shitshow.

And just over a year ago, another White House background call on Iran devolved into chaos when staffers couldn't figure out the mute function yet again.

NEW: @realDonaldTrump on why war crimes are ok — “They’re allowed to kill our people. They’re allowed to torture and maim our people. they’re allowed to use roadside bombs and blow up our people. And we’re not allowed to touch their cultural site?. It doesn’t work that way.”
MORE: @realDonaldTrump thinks sanctions are a way to extort money from Iraq if they ask US forces to go: “We have a very extraordinarily expensive air base that’s there. It cost billions of dollars to build. Long before my time We’re not leaving unless they pay us back for it...
...if they do ask us to leave, if we don’t do it in a very friendly basis. We will charge them sanctions like they’ve never seen before ever. It’ll make Iranian sanctions look somewhat tame.”

1. Merry Christmas, everyone.

2. @SpeakerPelosi can’t impeach anyone herself.

3. Impeachment needs only a majority vote in the House of Representatives because the US constitution — which says nothing about political parties— gives the House “the sole power of impeachment.”
“Due Process” means an actual trial, which @realDonaldTrump would get in the Senate if he weren’t too busy demanding that @senatemajldr rig the outcome.
