"We are now in the process of defeating the radical left, the Marxists, the anarchists, the agitators, the looters, and people who in many instances, have absolutely no clue what they are doing," @realDonaldTrump says, comparing protesters to Nazis.
"The power of tariffs, being imposed on foreign lands that took advantage of the United States for decades and decades have enabled us to make great trade deals where there were none," @realDonaldTrump lies, bragging about raising taxes on American companies and consumers.
"Wwe will not allow anyone to divide our citizens by race or background, we will not allow them to foment hate discord and distrust," says @realDonaldTrump, who routinely divides citizens by race and background, and whose campaign has doubled down on racial grievance.
NEW: I talked to some doctors about @realDonaldTrump's ramp troubles. One board-certified neurologist says the president's odd gait is...something that happens with people who have some sort of degenerative brain problem, usually in the frontal lobes." independent.co.uk/voices/trump-h…
A neurologist and ex-naval officer I spoke with suggested that @realDonaldTrump's doctor, Commander Sean Conley, is more vulnerable to being pushed into lying than the generals and admirals who usually serve as Physician to the President. But a former... independent.co.uk/voices/trump-h…
...White House Medical Unit director under @BillClinton and GW Bush said it's unlikely that doctors in that unit would give in: “there is nothing that is going to compel a physician to lie…because…something is going to come out if there is more to it”. independent.co.uk/voices/trump-h…
Watching the video feed of the @WestPoint_USMA graduation ceremony, I’ve spotted at least two of the White House “office of digital strategy” people (who create campaign-like videos of @realDonaldTrump but are paid by taxpayer funds) in attendance with cameras.
For some reason, @realDonaldTrump appeared to briefly inspect an Apache attack helicopter before heading to the lectern as “Hail to the Chief” plays.
As the national anthem plays, @realDonaldTrump is rendering a hand salute to the flag.
As anyone who has a clue about this stuff will tell you, this is improper for anyone dressed in civilian clothing as he is. The proper salute for civilians is with a right hand over the heart
(Thread) Reading over Tara Reade’s interview with Katie Harper, a few things in her account jump out as sounding strange to me, speaking as someone who has spent many many hours in the Capitol complex.
Here are some quick thoughts and notes. 1/
First, she says she was told to meet then-Senator Biden with his gym bag in the basement as he returned from the Capitol (the “subway” comes into Russell in basement). Why is this strange? The Senate gym is on the 1st floor of Russell, Biden’s office was on the 2nd in room 221 2/
This begs the obvious question of why would a scheduler for a gym-bound Senator with an office on the second floor of Russell have a staffer bring him his gym bag in the basement rather than have the staffer meet him on near the gym on the first floor. 2A/
NEW: Experts on authoritarianism worry that 2020 could be our last free election: "Republicans have shown no interest in sharing power or having a multi-party democracy, they've shown no interest in the rule of law."
"We're so far beyond democratic practice when people are talking about purely partisan judges, and when the Justice Department is being run by the President of the United States, we're talking about a monarchy or something like it."
"They're all complicit and they have to work to make sure the system doesn't fall down because they all see that they're going to be punished if he gets out of office...they [@GOP] don't have any interest in multi-party democracy anymore."
NEW: @realDonaldTrump on why war crimes are ok — “They’re allowed to kill our people. They’re allowed to torture and maim our people. they’re allowed to use roadside bombs and blow up our people. And we’re not allowed to touch their cultural site?. It doesn’t work that way.”
MORE: @realDonaldTrump thinks sanctions are a way to extort money from Iraq if they ask US forces to go: “We have a very extraordinarily expensive air base that’s there. It cost billions of dollars to build. Long before my time We’re not leaving unless they pay us back for it...
...if they do ask us to leave, if we don’t do it in a very friendly basis. We will charge them sanctions like they’ve never seen before ever. It’ll make Iranian sanctions look somewhat tame.”
